On topic, will there be offsite (kitchen cabinet) pendrive backups as paid addon?
Please read the OP. There are two off-site backups: one is in my office, and the other is in my other's house on the Ligurian coast (for optimal cooling). Both are QNAP running 2x12T RAID1 with PBS on it.
If you want me to passthrough a usb pendrive, that'll be an one off cost of 1€ (plus shipping).
That's a ripoff. You must be thinking we are rich or something to order NAT at 1 EUR per month. We got bills to pay too.
Scalway offers IPv6 with all ports for half that price. And Calin (your model inspiration) literally has an offer on LES frontpage with $5.5/year.
You know what, when i read your post i immediately felt bad. As if i would rip off the LES community.
I spent one hour of driving by thinking about what to write, talking aloud to an imaginary you, pretending there was an argument. People often do not realize that the words they write don't hurt, but i can guarantee that behind this person that pretends to be an animal on the internet for fun, there is a real heart a real brain, with real fingers and real ligaments, touching real keys on a real computer. And all of these things can hurt or be damaged in many ways, and one of them with words.
So please, before calling me a rip-off, consider everything that has happened and lead us to this moment. You say "Scalway offers IPv6 with all ports for half that price".
Well. First of all i couldn't find any "Scalway" company that sells those VPS.
And even if they existed, do they offer the same 1.23gb RAM 4.56mb SWAP 78.9GB storage i offer? Do they offer a way to change your ip address whenever you want? You have to consider that a VPS is not just a VPS, it's a whole world. You're not spending 1€ in vps, you're spending 1€ in priceless fun. Don't have 1€ to spare? Alright, guess we'll have fun without you.
I've tried to contact Calin for a collaboration but i haven't hear back ever since, probably something with them missing SFP and rDNS on the mail server, but i might be wrong.
How many users are you planning to put on this thing?
I plan to upgrade to 64G soon, issue is the server only has two so-dimms.

Also it might be fanless, but the HDD noise will drive you crazy when you're trying to be asleep. What you save in heating costs, you'll spend on earplugs.
No, these TOSHIBAs are quite quiet, and most reads/writes are dissipated into the SSDs.

What would be the price with a dedicated IPv4? Expected?
That will require me to get another dedicated line, you will receive dedicated residential 200/20 for 19€/mo
Included is also a 4G sim card with unlimited traffic which should work fine all over eu (i can ship it to you)

I meant Scaleway. It was a typo. If you type "scalway" in search engine you should get the Scaleway result though. Here is the offer for your convenience.

Hello,
as i said, these are QNAP devices running PBS.
PBS replaces the insecure OS which QNAP is running by default.
For your serenity of mind, i'll let you know that they are also connected between each other with wireguard, with internet connection cut off (they access the wireguard device through an external router).

Sorry but i m don t receive you message my discord it's: Stapinu#0670
PS: I m really liked you project , I died of laughter
PSv2: if you want to warm up, you need at least 10 servers
The port lottery thing would be cool if we could run whatever service we want on each port... Otherwise it's just a total gamble on if you get a port for a service you want to host. That's the main thing that makes me pause.
Those 1L business desktops are great little home server machines. I currently have 5 of them with 4C/8T CPUs, 32GB RAM, and 120GB+500GB SSDs for the OS and my Docker swarm cluster. Works quite well, very compact, fairly energy efficient and quiet.
Cheap dedis are my drug, and I'm too far gone to turn back.

Oh well, it did not even launch properly and I can already contemplate on the nigh end for this one. Good luck @foxone - you're gonna need it.
Scaleway is a baguette, my server is like a home cooked pizza made by your italian grandma. What would you eat? Good luck with your baguette.

Could you please describe how do you manage load balance that ADSL and 5g? Genuinly interested.
Hello,
all traffic goes through a VPS over at TIM DC ( https://wholesaledigitalstore.it/ ). The outbound IP is the same, but connections are divided based on load. This way the outgoing ip is always the same.
It does get a bit messy with latency but so far it worked okay.

Dear Calin,
there is also a RTX3080 + RTX2060 + GTX1660 generating furry porn art with Stable Diffusion 24/7. The side of the house with the servers is already getting warmer.

Yes. I find those prebuilts with weird designs and form factors much more fun to hack on (soldering!) than normal computers which are the same since the '00.
Why do we pay attention to this crap? He does not even have a provider tag and we indulge him in an offensive behaviour towards other providers? Is LES going the path of wooden frames, basements and shit hardware just for the sake of low-end?
This thread is long overdue. It should be closed (my opinion).

Perhaps a new forum category for "hosting at home" or "bad idea hosting" is needed so we can separate the wheat from the chaff.

The thread is funny, therefore it should stay IMO. Not like they're scamming anyone or being dishonest about what they're doing.

@foxone your counter argument is not really valid IMHO. If you were really going to offer this you would need to sign up for a provider tag and meet all the requirements.

You, me, and many others may not think that it is a viable idea, but this is a forum so the discussion is valid.

I agree and as long as this does not become an offer to purchase personally I'm fine with it.
EDIT: After reading though this thread again. I expect that @foxone is just punking us and this is a parody of of some of the ultra low end providers that have recently evolved at LES. Tell me true, did you purposely omit the /s at the end of the OP.

You really think a couple of euros a month are gonna change my life? Start my company? I already earn enough with my current job, enough to have some spare money to waste invest in fun projects like this one. Only a fool would think i would do this for profit and not shitposting

I would gladly pay even more (~1.99/mo.) for the sake of good quality drama. Majority of us would do the same. When your are in a castle, you need clowns, otherwise it gets boring.
