Free MetalVPS Intel i9-13900 Traditional Command Line Shell Accounts!
Friendly greetings to all! ๐๐
What You Get From MetalVPS!
New MetalVPS Neighbors receive a traditional command line shell account. Experienced Neighbors with additional privileges can create their own chroots, LXC containers, KVM VPSes, and much more, all directly from their command line shell accounts! ๐
MetalVPS has a Hetzner EX101 Node running an Intelยฎ Coreโข i9-13900 processor at Hetzner's Falkenstein Datacenter in Germany. ๐ฉ๐ช
MetalVPS sometimes has more than one Node.
@Not_Oles is looking for another Node located in the US, on the West Coast, with great connections to Asia.
All Node resources are available for fair use. ๐ท
More About MetalVPS!
MetalVPS is an indie project of @Not_Oles a/k/a Tom Miller a/k/a the cluelessโข guy. ๐ฅฐ
@Not_Oles pays Hetzner โฌ 89.00 per month, approximately US$ 96.19, for the i9-13900 Node. ๐ฐ
MetalVPS is not a project of Hetzner, Low End Spirit, Low End Talk, Low End Box, NodeSeek, or FreeVPS.org. ๐จโ๐ปโ
Why MetalVPS?
MetalVPS is @Not_Oles' way of expressing appreciation to the wonderful Low End community for all the fun @Not_Oles enjoys here. Yes, it indeed is very fun to play with and learn about servers, operating systems, and the internet.
It seems better to offer extra bare metal server capacity to others than to waste it. @Not_Oles' own server requirements are so minimal that he easily could use just a free cloud account. But, that wouldn't be metal, would it?
It seems better to keep everything as open and as transparent as possible. Hence, MetalVPS enjoys its commitments to 100% open source, free or libre software and to public discussion.
"For a little while longer I can enjoy renting my own fast, bare metal servers, even though I am using only 1% or 2% of their capacity. It's great with me if a few nice folks come aboard alongside." ๐

The all seeing eye sees everything...
Hi @terrorgen!
Here's a link to the ad as it appears on Nodeseek: https://www.nodeseek.com/post-8511-1#0
I will update the OP by inserting the Nodeseek ad link.
When I posted the ad on Nodeseek, I discovered that the translation process seemed to break a few links. There was an additional problem rendering one of the national flags. It was late, so I posted the ad on Nodeseek without the final "What People Are Saying" section.
Many of the guys from Nodeseek have been very fine! Really smart and hard working! It is a pleasure to be friends and to share a forum and a few servers with them!
As you yourself pointed out back when the idea of requiring ID was first proposed, fewer people will be interested when ID is involved, even if, as in the above ad, ID is optional.
People from everywhere are welcome at MetalVPS! ๐๐
Best wishes and kindest regards,
Tom

Thank you @Not_Oles ! Looking forward to the US West node.
Hi @tang_cn! You are more than welcome! If you have a suggestion as to US West providers with awesome connectivity to Asia, then I would be glad to hear it.
MetalVPS
Congrats on getting the server back online and open for "neighbors".

Not hard to guess which flag was not rendered correctly!
The all seeing eye sees everything...
Hi @somik! Thanks for the kind words!
MetalVPS
I could be wrong. It was late, I was tired, and there seemed to be multiple broken links. I didn't take a screenshot. But, I seem to remember that it was the final flag in the row which might not have been rendered correctly. If I recall correctly, the final flag was rendered in the editor's preview function as what seemed to be two parts. The left part looked like an arrow pointing to the right, something like "=>". The right part looked like a capital N in a bigger and bolder typeface.
Checking again just now, the flag rendering seems okay. If I see a flag rendering issue again, I hopefully will remember to take a screenshot. I still don't know what happened about the seemingly random broken links. A few of them seemed to have an extra space inserted and others seemed to have newlines inserted. Most of the links were fine.
Thanks to the guys at Nodeseek for working hard to make a nice forum and for being kind to me over there. Thanks equally to our wonderful guys, especially @terrorgen, here at LES!
I continue to have a lot of fun playing with the server. Among other things I am still messing around with installs. I have been looking at installs via grub. I also have been trying to read some of the installimage shell scripts. I found a script to install Alpine in a chroot. Haha, the install took only 2.4 seconds.
I've since moved the
alpine-chroot-install
script to /usr/local/bin and have been running it with different options. Also I've been messing with the Rawhide daily isos and with NetBSD.
A few days ago, I posted about systemd-nspawn. I haven't tried it yet, but I might.
I've also been reading little pieces of many C programming books, looking at code repositories, and trying easy exercises.
It's amazing that the server now has ten days of uptime! I will have to fix that soon! But during these ten days, I doubt that anyone sharing the server would have been inconvenienced by anything I have been doing. The load averages suggest that there is extra capacity.
Except for saying, "People from everywhere are welcome at MetalVPS! ๐๐" how about if we please try to keep politics to other threads and please try to keep this thread for fun MetalVPS server stuff? Thanks!

Ok I am probably going to screw up begging for one of these but here goes.......
I just want to play with different machines and learn how they work. You have seen my post on here, I'm kind of an idiot and have to poke at stuff to learn it.
Now in the hopes I don't embarrass myself too horribly I think this is the key I'm supposed to post....

Hi Bill!
Welcome to LES! Glad to see that you are enjoying it here and that you have some very well received posts and comments!
Thanks for your request! Let's see if we can score it according to the factors mentioned in the OP.
Looks like your account has been here a little over two months. You have 3 discussions and 83 comments. Excellent!
Additionally, you said:
Impressive! I don't know anything about xmrig!
"Play with different machines and learn how they work" sounds great! Maybe there could be something specific about the i9-13900 which you find interesting, but, if so, you didn't mention it. From your other posts you seem to have a lot of servers already. That's great!

Overall, it seems like your request is excellent, impressive, and great in several categories, but perhaps a bit sparse in a few other categories? Maybe there is more that you would like to add?
Thanks again for your request, and thanks for considering the possible addition of more information. I want to keep trying to give you a MetalVPS account. Best wishes and kindest regards!
