Backup server | service wanted

Not_OlesNot_Oles Hosting ProviderContent Writer

Everybody seems waiting for Black Friday to happen, so maybe it might be a bad good time for me to post a request? :)

I am using a Kimsufi KS-1 - Atom D425 - 2GB DDR3 1066 MHz - 500GB SATA - 100 Mbps as a backup server. It's $4.99/month. I hope to replace this server before about December 8.

Location doesn't matter. Speed doesn't much matter. Doesn't have to be bare metal. Need either ssh + scp access from 3 static IPs or at least some way to verify the integrity of the uploads. I'm only using about 150 GB of the 500, so smaller than 500 GB would be okay. After the initial transfer of 150 GB, there wouldn't be much additional bandwidth needed.

Not a big fan of reCAPTCHA. The Maximum Mentality folks seem pretty sure that I'm a fraud. Stripe and others seem happy to work with me. I like monthly payments.

Haha, probably I've forgotten some important detail or another. :)

@AnthonySmith Maybe you've got something not too far from Sonora?

Ideas, suggestions much appreciated! Thanks! And, Happy Thanksgiving!

  • @AnthonySmith is ultra premium.

  • Letbox or Inception in Phoenix is your best bet. Letbox has 1 vCore, 1GB and 250GB for 30.12 USD annually, basically half your current price.

How good is the core? Do you have the Bench.Monster test?
I've been waiting Kimsufi KS-2 6 for months...
    How about transfering?

I will be doing an assessment tomorrow on how many double space double bandwidth phoenix storage deals I can offer on BF, it will be fairly limited.

I had planned on standing up a new server for this in Phoenix however due to time restraints and other commitments I did not get things done in time.

You can always do a pre-release offer. ;-)

    Two Three ideas:

    1. https://greencloudvps.com/black-friday.php -> 500 GB in either Denver or Atlanta for 30 USD/y.

    2. https://lowendstorage.win/ -> not my site, but I visit it every now and often -> sorted by cheapness, not sure about BudgetNode, i-83 has a rather bad reputation AFAIR, mrVM has good ratings but storage plans are apparently sold out, so the next cheapest and (at least somewhat reputable) offer would be https://hosting.gullo.me/order/config/index/nat-ipv4-vps-ca/?group_id=11&pricing_id=157 (around 3 USD/mo. for 250 GB in Canada with yearly billing).

    3. Alternatively https://www.hostens.com/vps-hosting/#hosting__plan__group-tab-storage - for the amount of data you need (<250GB), this is the cheapest offer, but their location is not North America, but Eastern Europe (Lithuania, it's the budget brand of Time4VPS)

This is a good idea, as long as it's clear how long the wait will be :)

  • @Not_Oles - I'm assuming you're looking for storage near the Sonoran desert and if so, @AnthonySmith is your best bet. @vimalware has been very happy with his Phoenix storage box and I think you will find it perfect (and well priced) for your needs, assuming that you can snag one (I'm sure Anthony can reserve one for you!).

There's always the @UltraVPS storage box (excellent I can assure you) as already pointed out by @Falzo though it is on the wrong side of the pond for you.

Other options you can consider are @servarica_hani (Servarica) offers of which there is likely to be one this BF (an annual USD 48 for 2TB of storage which should serve you very well) and of course @hosthatch if they come up with one. I hope there will be some good special/exclusive offers for the refined folks here.

I'm sure you'll have plenty of good reliable sustainable options to pick from during the course of the next few days.

    Best wishes...

Just a few minutes ago read on LET one guy told another guy that he shouldn't use @UltraVPS for warez. And they call warez any films on the VPS as far as I understand. For example I have an old libriry of my own DVD films which I bought in 00x, about 400 GB and seems I will not be appreciate if I upload them to @UltraVPS virtual machine and be watching them from day to day using Plex. Because how they understand that it's not warez? I don't have checks but I can made a pictures of the all these DVD. Anyway it looks awful to make so many moves for just uploading them to the VPS. Just my 50 cents.

  • As far as I know, Kimsufi don't give a f what you upload to your VPS, of course if it's not something bad like terrorism, child porn and so on.

without diving too deep into the german laws and regulations, I think in general it is a bad idea to torrent on german providers, because they won't like any DMCA or cease&desist letters coming in.
that said, if you only run your personal plex server or whatever I don't think they care at all. for sure they won't snoop around your content, as that's against the law here in the first place.

ask yourself if you consider your plex usage shady or prone to bring in legal problems? if so, why should a provider accept it. if not, then I don't see a problem here... and btw this does not only apply to @UltraVPS but every reasonable provider.

No, I didn't speak about torrents, it's understandable that it's not good with german providers. Just to upload the own film library. No pron, just hollywood DVD films. Nowadays on torrents you barely can find DVD ;)

if you are just streaming/watching your own shit and not distributing, who should be the one to complain? so there will be no issue at all.
I think this is rather some kind of language barrier here ;-) just because someone said 'warez' over at LET does not mean every movie stream is automatically considered illegal... as said before I'd guess every serious provider won't welcome 'warez' on their boxes, yet they will only investigate if they have got a reason to do so.

Look what happened with HostSolutions Norway pre-release offer.

It's supposed to work like this:

    1. Order Norway.
    2. Do 14 push-ups every day.
    3. Box delivered after 196 push-ups.

    What actually happened was:

    1. Hardware got stuck in customs.
    2. Customers had to do more push-ups.

Don't trust any "coming soon" offers.

didnt try greencloud ; based on a few user comments it wasnt enticing enough to try :) especially on annual basis

iirc these BF prices are similar to what they normally offer on their other site, greenkvm dot co(m)

    I bench YABS 24/7/365 unless it's a leap year.

  • We could offer a smaller storage server for you (assuming 500gb is too much).

But honestly saying I find this plan
    1 core
    2 gb ram
    500 gb hdd

Very good for just 30 bucks per year. Haven't seen anything like that this year till now.
It can be 1 core 1 gb ram and 1 tb hdd, it can be 1 core 1 gb ram 500 gb hdd but in both cases the budget is over 30-35 euro
So I'm going to wait a little bit, maybe Hosthatch, Liteserver and HostSolutions will show something better but I doubt..really.

I would wait for letbox bf sales, but they don't have storage in Europe...

Well, OP was asking for something close to Mexico, and as far as Romania is concerned, there's a high chance that there's gonna be an even better offer from HostSolutions.ro (unless that last crazy deal was also their last one).
