AIO Chromebook Thread - News, Ideas, Discussion, Questions
Since I am currently considering getting a Chromebook and the topic seems to get more interesting the more I dive into various articles and videos about ChromeOS and Chromebooks in general, let's use this thread to talk about Chromebooks
Do you have a Chromebook? How has your experience been? Are you looking for a Chromebook? Any doubts, questions? Found some exciting news or tools you want to share? Let's talk!
FAQ: What happens to my chromebook when it does not get any updates anymore? An interesting question to which I found an interestinf article (link shortened by @Not_Oles , thanks!):

Just now found an article about Steam perhaps coming to ChromeOS sooner than later:

I'll give it a go: What are your must-have apps/tools on your Chromebook that you can definitely recommend? Which Code Editor do you use?

Personally, I would not buy it to use ChromeOS, only if the price is good so to put Windows.

Fair enough. Not the reply was hoping to get but (probably) a legit "use case" :P
I must admit there are more people here with a Chromebook than I first anticipated. @Not_Oles seems to know a lot about them (and probably about anything?! at this point lol) and also @Solaire and others ( @ialexpw , @rcy026 , @PHP_Backend , @pr0lz , @vyas ) have given me some interesting input making me think getting one may very well be worth it

its offtopic but just throwing this here:

I bench YABS 24/7/365 unless it's a leap year.
Definitely also looks interesting! I remember others mentioning Pinebook(?!) and other alternatives, too. I'd probably prefer ChromeOS due to simplicity and slick/elegant design + all my Google Apps right there (and also other reasons).

There are all these long rant threads everywhere about Macbook vs Thinkpad vs other things. Here's a link to a recent HN post on the Thinkpad P14s.
In the blog post which is the subject of the HN post there is a link to bgamari's list of requirements for a laptop. If I were buying a laptop now, I'd go through bgamari's list carefully, trying to compare my requirements with his as well as trying to discover any additional requirements that I would add to the list.
In one of the oxide.computer podcasts somebody mentioned that Alienware made laptops with open source boot firmware. bgamari mentions "functional firmware" on his laptop requirements list, but, until the podcast, I didn't know that any "significantly market recognized" manufacturer made a laptop with open source boot firmware.
It would be nice if there were a Chromebook with a great, color balanced screen on which, as an alternative to Chrome OS, I had the option to boot any OS with the same CPU architecture.
Friendly greetings from my Chromebook's keyboard! 👨💻

Hm..
Have you considered getting an Intel Nuc / Asus PN50 (Ryzen) and mount it using Vesa and installing ChromeOS? Are they specifically looking for touchscreen?
Better specs, more customization (less bloatware?) Yes, you will "own" tech support, but for parents, one anyways has to do that ^.^
The marketers and media in India are showcasing ChromeOs machines as cheap notebooks for students-on-a-budget.
That's why the specs of the CX9 impressed me

Could be an idea, too. Albeit, official ChromeOS (if they already know it from the laptop) may be better. Isn't the publicly availabe ChromiumOS kinda different from the official ChromeOS, though?
Also, regarding CX9, I can imagine that devices with specs like this come into existence for ChromeOS because gaming is also becoming a thing on there as Steam is coming to ChromeOS (kinda) : https://chromeunboxed.com/chromebook-gaming-steam-borealis-which-devices?amp

Just found out about "Cursive", a new note-taking app exclusively for Chromebooks: https://chromeunboxed.com/cursive-google-app-chrome-os-hp-x2-11/
Seems pretty cool

Damn, seems like Microsoft is ending Office-App support for Chromebooks soon (forcing chrome os users to use Microsoft's online solution).

Anyone using yubikey on it?
Also, how about 1 password?
Yubikey/U2F and 1Password (the chrome extension version) function the same as on any other OS with Chrome browser installed. Haven't had any problems with them on my Chromebook.
