Public iPerf3-Server speedtest.wtnet.de upgrade to 40Gbit
Hey guys,
some of you may know me from LEB as "fLoo". I'm running the public speedtest server "speedtest.wtnet.de". We've successfully upgraded it to 40 Gbit. It is located near Hamburg/Germany. I'd be happy to hear results from you to improve on them.
Thanks for your time!
Florian

No, I didn't knew that such server or person even existed. Thank you for letting me know. 40 Gbps iperf is better than 0 Gbps.

seems to be 404?

Thanks for letting me know. I'm in the process of generating these files now.
Update: Should be fixed now.

From hosthatch STO,
Anybody with >=10gbps connection?
Thanks for your public service! There are not enough iperf public servers out there especially ones to test speeds higher than 1Gbps. So thank you!
Cheap dedis are my drug, and I'm too far gone to turn back.

Nice server there.
Good connection with Brazil, I get 100% of my download speed 500mbps even with the route passing through 3 continents.
Upload is fine too, I have 125mbps upload.

hi @uniquoo
could u have a look at the iperf instances ? seems only 5200 and 5202 are working
iPerf intances are restarted every night. Do you still have problems reaching other ports ?
Hi yes
right now only 5200 is working.
I tried it with HostHatch Amsterdam (which is theoretically on a 40Gbps connection as per https://docs.hosthatch.com/features/) but I "only" got 2.45Gbps with iperf3.

yeah i also got an AMS HostHatch it never realy goes above 3Gbps.

Great project after all.
I'm currently checking into tunables and routing issues with out backbone. Please give me some time to so i can hopefully fix this. Within Germany I've seen tests up to 19,8 Gbit so far. Yet not close enough to 40G. Sorry. Will update this post once i can update you with hopefully good news on this.
It's a netcup box .
Update:
It looks like everyone is testing against one single Port. Because iPerf3 is single threaded i'd like to ask you to test the throughput the following way:
iperf3 -c speedtest.wtnet.de -s t1 -p 5301 -P 2 -4 &
iperf3 -c speedtest.wtnet.de -s t2 -p 5302 -P 2 -4 &
iperf3 -c speedtest.wtnet.de -s t3 -p 5303 -P 2 -4 &
iperf3 -c speedtest.wtnet.de -s t4 -p 5304 -P 2 -4 &
I was able to verify that i was able to achieve 100G locally using 4 ports (25g each using 2 threads).
have u tuned the TCP Settings (rmem wmem congestion_control etc..) on the Box ?
Could help to increase the Speeds
Yep. According to ESNETs advice for 40/100g interfaces
From NY seem to only be able to push around 3Gbps tried using the above commands looks like it has a typo in it.
iperf3 -c speedtest.wtnet.de -T t1 -p 5301 -P 10 -4 &
iperf3 -c speedtest.wtnet.de -T t2 -p 5302 -P 10 -4 &
iperf3 -c speedtest.wtnet.de -T t3 -p 5303 -P 10 -4 &
iperf3 -c speedtest.wtnet.de -T t4 -p 5304 -P 10 -4 &
Their site shows with a ; at the end also but that invoked a syntax error.

Running the above with multiples doesn't seem to help our speeds.
We will have a 40g system online for a bit here if someone wants to test it out have fun.

I've tested from my home connection (Vodafone Cable with 1 Gbit/s down, 50 Mbit/s up) and I get about ~850 Mbit/s down and 50 Mbit/s up while I get close to 1 Gbit/s down with Clouvider's iperf servers in AMS and FRA. But that's likely due to the peering between wilhelm.tel and Vodafone?

Looks like they're peers so should be good?
I'm getting around 940/940 Mbps on my home connection at the moment. That's in the Netherlands, but my ISP has IX peering with WTNet too. Best I got from this speedtest server was ~ 16 Gbps on a 40 Gbps connection.
To be honest with you, i've yet to find the bottleneck which causes the problems described. I've tested locally with multiple streams (using multiple ports and so multiple iPerf3-daemons on multiple cores) and was able to achieve 100 Gbit consistently.
Right now i'm debugging with our backbone department to rule out anything between the server and our core router and/or between the core and the endcustomer. Not that of an easy task.
Tested from our speedtest:
iperf3 -c nyc.iperf3.purevoltage.com -p 5201 -P16 -4
[SUM] 0.00-10.00 sec 5.85 GBytes 5.03 Gbits/sec 8 sender
[SUM] 0.00-10.08 sec 5.23 GBytes 4.46 Gbits/sec receiver
iperf3 -c nyc.iperf3.purevoltage.com -p 5201 -P16 -4 -R
[SUM] 0.00-10.09 sec 3.19 GBytes 2.71 Gbits/sec 36574 sender
[SUM] 0.00-10.01 sec 3.13 GBytes 2.68 Gbits/sec receiver
Interesting, yeah it seems odd on the speeds. I know someone else did some tests and got 18Gbps in PHX.
