vpsgeek said: Dear Fran don't you think Virtualizor is a good enough replacement for SolusVM?
Honest to god opinion? No, at least in my eyes.
Virtualizor does some completly wacky things in how they built their system. Its really really really easy for nodes to become out of sync because they try to run a multi-master like setup.
There's plenty of massive bugs and it seems that they don't do proper version control since sometimes bugs will return. The interface really harsh on the eyes and its just extremely buggy. I know this first hand since I helped a friend rebuild nodes a while back.
More features means nothing if things are a complete mess and it's questionable if it's going to even work. Hate on Solus for being unmaintained, but from what I've seen it isn't catching fire or causing plenty of headaches.

Something roughly resembling SolusVM can be coded in two weeks(tm). So if they do spike their prices I bet something else is going to pop up. The (im)maturity is gonna suck, but still...
You're being a little optimistic there, I think. If you only consider the customer-facing side, then maybe, and it'd still be very questionable security-wise and buggy, it'd assume that the provider will be doing all the management tasks outside of the panel, it won't have billing integration, and so on.
A provider who wants to provide reliable services is more likely to just eat the cost for a while until they can figure a production-tested replacement, than to haphazardly roll their own on top of the work they're already doing supporting customers.

I am being optimistic, yes, but just a little. Just to be clear "coded in two weeks" is sort of a meme.
SolusVM is a lot of work, but none of it is rocket science. If they jack up their prices suddenly there is a point for someone else to do this work and since it's not rocket science a lot of people are capable of doing it.
Questionable security and bugs (immaturity) is going to be a problem, I totally agree.
And I don't mean every provider is gonna do it by themselves, I mean some substitute will come to prominence.
Solus has a lot of features that no one uses. I don't know a single customer that uses the PXE system for instance. Infact almost no host that's renting servers is going to be able to use that since the packets are likely getting dropped.
I think the bigger issue is for people to trust a new person/group and believe that they're going to stick it out. Solus was born in the days of HyperVM, we're talking well over 10 years of market experience. It's going to be hard for some random person/group to launch a panel that's locked down (ioncube, zend, etc) and get much traction.
Interesting. I guess this just the beginning. Wonder what will happen to the profit once big boys starts dropping?
Everyone on that thread ... /smh
I'm leaving you because you don't have CPanel anymore... wahhh wahhh wahhh. Yet FTP and Phpmyadmin are still there to solve all of their complaints.

Right, there's always a breaking point.
I know @smarthost has given his opinion of 'fuck that noise' on any sort of per-core pricing, as has @MikeA, but what is your break point? Any cost more than $1/month/core?
@AnthonySmith can I get my main post & title edited?

Expect another price hike for WHMCS within next 6 to 12 months
Solus.io pricing is also force loads of budget vps providers to migrate to stuff like Virtualizor or vmManager

So what are the fallbacks? cpanel -> directadmin, does anyone miss cpanel? whmcs -> blesta, same? What about solus: is it time for stallion world dimunition domination? Anything else?
In addition to CVC buying in, You'll note that one Oakley fund (fund IV) is actually paying $200 million to buy a stake in Webpros from a different Oakley fund. LOL.
