Hey,

If you are bored and wanna play around with a LXC container: https://microlxc.net/
Currently AU, JP, LA and CH are available, you can pick between 128 and 256MB packages.

As usual some requirements apply:

Your account needs to be 6 months old

You need to have at least 50 Posts

You need to have at least 50 Likes

If you meet these, you can go on the website, and to verify that you are you, you need to post the token that will be given to you in this thread. The Bot will do the rest.

If stuff goes well, it will be publicly soon.
Please report bugs and suggestions.

PS: IPv6 is DHCP based in AU & CH but JP & LA needs Static config, which is automatically configured on Debian & Devuan but not on CentOS/Ubuntu needs to be done by hand yet. You can find your IPv6 in the Panel just substract -1 for the Gateway.

Free MetalVPS Intel i9-13900 Traditional Command Line Shell Accounts!

Friendly greetings to all! 🌎🌍

What You Get From MetalVPS!

New MetalVPS Neighbors receive a traditional command line shell account. Experienced Neighbors with additional privileges can create their own chroots, LXC containers, KVM VPSes, and much more, all directly from their command line shell accounts! 🎁

MetalVPS has a Hetzner EX101 Node running an Intel® Core™ i9-13900 processor at Hetzner's Falkenstein Datacenter in Germany. 🇩🇪

MetalVPS sometimes has more than one Node.

@Not_Oles is looking for another Node located in the US, on the West Coast, with great connections to Asia.

All Node resources are available for fair use. 🐷

More About MetalVPS!

MetalVPS is an indie project of @Not_Oles a/k/a Tom Miller a/k/a the clueless™ guy. 🥰

@Not_Oles pays Hetzner € 89.00 per month, approximately US$ 96.19, for the i9-13900 Node. 💰

MetalVPS is not a project of Hetzner, Low End Spirit, Low End Talk, Low End Box, NodeSeek, or FreeVPS.org. 👨‍💻

Why MetalVPS?

MetalVPS is @Not_Oles' way of expressing appreciation to the wonderful Low End community for all the fun @Not_Oles enjoys here. Yes, it indeed is very fun to play with and learn about servers, operating systems, and the internet.

It seems better to offer extra bare metal server capacity to others than to waste it. @Not_Oles' own server requirements are so minimal that he easily could use just a free cloud account. But, that wouldn't be metal, would it?

It seems better to keep everything as open and as transparent as possible. Hence, MetalVPS enjoys its commitments to 100% open source, free or libre software and to public discussion.

"For a little while longer I can enjoy renting my own fast, bare metal servers, even though I am using only 1% or 2% of their capacity. It's great with me if a few nice folks come aboard alongside." 💖
    -- @Not_Oles

Warnings!

Clueless™ administrator with "limited technical skills. . . ." 😀 @Not_Oles frequently messes up! 😱

@Not_Oles is especially clueless™ about Debian. 🤗

Hey! The i9-13900 Node usually runs Debian sid unstable! 🤩 And, it's RAID 0! 😭

The i9-13900 Node's integrated graphics processor is not presently enabled. 😵

Sometimes trusted MetalVPSians might or might not get sudo. 🙈🙉🙊

MetalVPS has no billing panel and no server control panel. It's all command line until you install the GUI that you want. 🆕

MetalVPS has no onboarding and no knowledge base. ♒︎

Account delivery might take awhile! 😴

Intended especially for computer learning and fun! 🤑

White Hat stuff only, please! 👍

@Not_Oles tries to keep the system updated. Frequent maintenance reboots are guaranteed! 🌺

Please make your own redundant, offsite backups! It's easy to download or sync or clone your backup to a safe place. Please also make sure that you actually can restore from your backups! Please think of your MetalVPS account as ephemeral! Your Node might blow up! 💥 At any random second @Not_Oles or maybe you might reinstall the Node! 🤦‍♂️

Other MetalVPSians can see your account name, some of the processes you are running, and much other information. So, please do not put confidential information on the server. 🤔

MetalVPS Neighbors are expected both to monitor and to contribute actively to this thread or to the companion Nodeseek thread. 🍔

Why

Why not? It's fun to play with and learn about servers, operating systems, and the internet.

@Not_Oles uses very little of his MetalVPS servers' capacity. It's better to offer the extra capacity to others than to waste it.

Warnings!

Clueless™ administrator! 😀 @Not_Oles frequently messes up! 😱

@Not_Oles is especially clueless™ about Debian since he is a Debian noob. 🤗

Hey! This Node runs Debian sid unstable! 🤩 And, it's RAID 0! 😭

Sometimes trusted MetalVPSians might or might not get sudo. 🙈🙉🙊

MetalVPS has no billing panel and no server control panel. It's all command line until you install the GUI that you want. 🆕

MetalVPS has no onboarding and no knowledge base. ♒︎ If you want to make an LXC or KVM VPS, please be willing to research about how to do it on the command line.

Account delivery might take awhile! 😴

Accounts subject to cancellation at any time without advance notice! 💥

No warranty, to the extent permitted by applicable law. No service level agreement. Not for business use. Intended especially for computer learning and fun! 🤑

White Hat stuff only, please! No copyright violations, please.

It might blow up! We or you might reinstall the Node! 🤦‍♂️

MetalVPS.com is not a project of lowendspirit.com, lowendtalk.com, hetzner.com, or freevps.org. 👨‍💻

Other MetalVPSians can see your account name, some of the processes you are running, and much other information. So, please do not put confidential information on the server. 🤔

Installed Stuff

We're just beginning on this Node.

So far, gcc, git, lxc, qemu-kvm, zsh, and more are installed. Additional configuration is required, but MetalVPSians should be able to compile, to create unprivileged LXC containers, and to create KVM virtual machines.

Hey all,

We're in the process of (extremely slowly) cleaning up and prepping to move out of one of our warehouses to a new location and throughout this process I've seen that we have a lot of stuff that is non-business-critical and thus becomes e-waste. I don't want to throw it away, and I don't want to become an eBay reseller. The next best idea: free stuff (on LES only).

General rules:
* Your account should have more activity (not spammy) than mine to be considered. There isn't a hard-and-fast rule, if you think you qualify then make a claim.
* Wait 24 hours between "claims" on parts to give others a chance to chime in and get something.
* Items will have a per-claim quantity limit listed if one exists, this resets every 24hrs with the general claim rules.
* You provide us a shipping label at your expense, as well as the required importation docs to be included with said label, if necessary. I do not have the administrative manpower to deal with this, so it is non-negotiable. We will provide all packing materials and package it appropriately. We ship from Spokane, WA, USA.
* I will not and cannot test every piece of hardware here. They worked when pulled, but some of these items have been sitting for 2+ years. No guarantees--accept that risk BEFORE you send us a shipping label. There are no guarantees, refunds, replacements, warranties or anything of that nature. We will test the servers for POST/BIOS before packing due to the hassle and cost of shipping full chassis.
* I can and probably will change rules at any given time, for any given reason. If I forgot something or there is some 'technicality' allowing unintended actions, I will simply change the rules and ignore the request. This is a best-effort giveaway for no reason other than to hope someone can get some decent hardware and use it.

Process to claiming:
1. Reply with the ITEM and QUANTITY requested clearly readable (other conversation/jokes/etc also encouraged, just keep it separated so it is easy to see)
2. I will reply to you and confirm the request publicly as I get around to it, but if you were first you will have first dibs (sans some disqualifying reason).
3. After it has been confirmed, PM me here with ITEM, QUANTITY, and a LINK to your confirmation post by me.
4. We will get you package dimensions and weight, you will give us label and it will go out.

Things I will flat out ignore (and likely never accept a claim from you):
1. Not following procedure above/blatantly ignoring posted procedure and wasting my time.
2. Begging, hassling me/any members of Crunchbits via tickets, PMs, other means.

Overall, intent is to have some fun and share some decent gear.

This thread will be constantly updated with new stuff, so check the newest posts for updated parts availability lists

EASTER EGG HUNT

There is something somewhere in this post that I found to be silly, maybe slightly ridiculous and it makes me laugh. You're probably overthinking it. But it is there.

If you find it, and you are the first (or work with friends and you decide to split prizes somehow) here is what you can claim 1 of:

RTX 3090 (probably used)

NIB 65" 4K TV

3x 1U servers of better quality than what was listed here and more .. stuff inside them

Good luck

What is Convoy?
Convoy is a VPS panel meant for hosting providers and regular consumers. It supports many of the essential functions of a virtualization panel, such as reinstallation, power management, IP management, ISO mounting, and way more. Convoy uses Proxmox VE as a backend, and can connect to any host node that runs the latest version of Proxmox VE. Convoy also has public source code, in which anyone can look at, audit, or modify under the Business Source License, which is a significant advantage over the competing VPS panels on the market.

Price
At the time of writing, Convoy is/will currently be $6/node/month for commercial usage (i.e. hosting businesses). Convoy will be free for non-commercial or personal use cases, meaning that it is also an ideal panel for those running home labs or other setups.

Integrations
Convoy currently has a Blesta module, which can be found here (developed by Aleksa, costs £30 at time of writing).
Convoy currently has a WIP WHMCS module, which will be open source and free soon (developed by me).

Open Beta
I have decided to host a small open beta for Convoy. If you would like to check out Convoy, find bugs, issues, etc, you can sign up for a small 512MB VPS with 1 IPv6 address.

Intel Xeon E5-1650 v2 (1 core)

512MB DDR4 ECC Memory

1 Gbps Shared Unmetered

Single IPv6 Address

No IPv4 Access (yet)

Located in Falkenstein, DE

Order Here >> https://clients.wynservers.com/index.php?rp=/store/vps/convoy-512mb

Please make sure to read the plan terms and full details of the plan before ordering. If you do not have IPv6 access, I would recommend checking out Route48.

Order Requirements:

You must have at least 25 non-spammy posts/comments on LowEndSpirit.

You must have at least been a member of LowEndSpirit for 2 weeks.

If you are a hosting provider, you can immediately skip these requirements.

You will need to comment the order number. If you've lost it, then make a new order.

Invoice numbers are not accepted at this time.

These order requirements will get more relaxed once the initial wave of open beta servers have been handed out. There may be some initial issues with the WHMCS integration, but they are being ironed out. If you run into an issue, bug, or have any feedback, you can open a ticket and it will either be forwarded to @ewang or it will be fixed by me (if it's an issue with WHMCS integration).

Open beta will last until May 14th, 2023. There is no SLA policy on these free plans (obviously). Feel free to run stuff such as uptime monitors, Discord bot's, or whatever you want. If we have to do anything to these plans, we will announce any changes 72 hours beforehand.

Hardware and WHMCS integration for Convoy Open Beta has been provided/managed/made by me, so any questions about that should be directed to me. The software itself has been made by @ewang, I am simply posting this thread on his behalf as he is new to LowEndSpirit and I support the Convoy project.

What's New At MetalVPS?

MetalVPS hopes to keep both the i9-12900K Node and Debian sid for a long while.

1 Gbps unlimited, fair use

1 x IPv4

1 x IPv6/64

Who?

MetalVPS is a project of @Not_Oles a/k/a Tom Miller a/k/a the clueless™ guy.

Where?

MetalVPS currently has Nodes in Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮 and in Fremont, California USA. 🇺🇸

The Fremont Node is not included in this offer.

Why?

Why not? It's fun to play with and learn about servers, operating systems, and the internet.

@Not_Oles uses very little of his MetalVPS servers' capacity. It's better to offer the extra capacity to others than to waste it.

Congrats!

These congrats are transferred from the Fremont Node. More congrats will be added as people begin to use the new Helsinki Node.

Warnings!

Clueless™ administrator! 😀 @Not_Oles frequently messes up! 😱

@Not_Oles is especially clueless™ about Debian since he is a Debian noob. 🤗

Hey! This Node runs Debian unstable! 🤩

Sometimes trusted MetalVPSians might or might not get sudo. 🙈🙉🙊

MetalVPS has no billing panel and no server control panel. It's all command line until you install a GUI or activate whatever pre-installed GUI you want.

@Not_Oles tries to keep the system updated. Frequent maintenance reboots are almost guaranteed! 🌺

Please make your own redundant, offsite backups! It's easy to download or sync or clone your backup to a safe place. Please also make sure that you actually can restore from your backups! Please think of your MetalVPS account as ephemeral! It might blow up! We or you might reinstall the Node! 🤦‍♂️

MetalVPS.com is not a project of lowendspirit.com, lowendtalk.com, hetzner.com, or of Cloudie Networks, LLC. 👨‍💻

Other MetalVPSians can see your account name, some of the processes you are running, and much other information. So, please do not put confidential information on the server. 🤔

Bug Report

Following the upgrade to sid, reboots sometimes fail to complete until after power is reset. Following power reset, the Node reboots successfully. The issue happened on multiple servers, so it seems not to be a hardware problem.

Fortunately, after a successful reboot, the server seems stable. A yabs run just now on sid is shown below.

The problem might be with dbus. Here is some log output for a failed reboot. The errors at the end seem similar to Debian Bug 877642.

Installed Stuff

We're just beginning on this Node.

So far, gcc, git, lxc, qemu-kvm, zsh, and more are installed. Additional configuration still is required, but MetalVPSians eventually should be able to compile, to create unprivileged LXC containers, and (if added to the kvm group) to create KVM virtual machines.

Plans include installing Docker and Nix. Plus code-server, oksh, Xv6, plan9port, LAMP stack. Plus more. If you want something, please let us know!

Alpine Linux seems to have been installed on the MetalVPS antique Intel node at Hurricane Electric Fremont-2.

Want a free Alpine shell account? Maybe with sudo? 👍 With all node resources shared, fair use? 🎂 Right now plenty of server resources are available because only a few people are using the Fremont node.

Fremont Node Specs

Server: Intel S2600GZ

CPU: 2 x Xeon E5-2630L v2, 2 x 6 cores = 12 cores = 24 threads

RAM: 32 GB DDR3 ECC (upgrade to 64 GB expected this month)

Hard Drive: 1 x 500 GB SSD, 2 x 1 TB HDD

IP Addresses: IPv4/28, IPv6/48

Connection: 1 GBit/s port

Bandwidth: Fair use

Datacenter: Hardware rented from Cloudie Networks, LLC inside Hurricane Electric Fremont 2, Fremont, California USA 🇺🇸

Node OS: Alpine Linux 3.17 edge! 🤩 NetBSD might or might not be coming soon! ❤️

VM OS: Whatever you install!

Who?

MetalVPS is a project of @Not_Oles a/k/a Tom Miller a/k/a the clueless™ guy.

Where?

MetalVPS currently has nodes in Falkenstein, Germany 🇩🇪 and Fremont, California USA. 🇺🇸

This thread is for the Fremont node. 🇺🇸

The Falkenstein node has its own offer thread.

Why?

@Not_Oles is especially clueless™ about Alpine since he is an Alpine noob. 🤗

Hey! Fremont runs Alpine 3.17 edge! 🤩

Sometimes trusted MetalVPSians might or might not get sudo. 🙈🙉🙊

MetalVPS has no billing panel and no server control panel. 🔜 It's all command line until you install a GUI or activate whatever pre-installed GUI you want. 🆕

MetalVPS has no onboarding and no knowledge base. ♒︎ If you want to make an LXC or KVM VPS, please be willing to research about how to do it on the command line. 🥰

MetalVPS.com is an indie project of @Not_Oles a/k/a Tom Miller with help from the MetalVPSians and many other friends. MetalVPS.com is not a project of lowendspirit.com, lowendtalk.com, or of Cloudie Networks, LLC. 👨‍💻

Other MetalVPSians can see your account name, some of the processes you are running, and much other information. So, please do not put confidential information on the server. 🤔

lots of features, including some really rare ones (Pascal! )
only 3 gigs of space
"PHP interpreters 3" and "System processes 15" suggest that this may be suitable only for very low traffic websites, or as a dev environment

EDIT: Sorry, I unintentionally deleted the original poll while slightly editing OP -_-' (AFAIR the votes were 1/1/1)

X-Posted from the OGF. Feel free to move this to Offers if this would classify as one.

Help us test a beta of a work in progress: IncogVPN

What: A free beta of our work-in-progress WireGuard or IKEv2 VPN. It features DNS over Tor (DNS leak tests should show different Tor exits each time), we don't log your requests, no PII is required to order, and it blocks ads. Cool.

Speeds are capped at 100Mbps for each client for this beta.

Why is it free: So we can measure usage / resource consumption of a service under actual real world use. We'll measure things like bandwidth consumption and things like CPU/Mem/Disk performance under proper real-world load. This will help us determine what is needed for production. Additionally, since we're doing ad-blocking, we can either increase or decrease the blocklist if needed to better the service before the official launch, based on user input.

How do I join: No PII is required, but you will need to register in our billing portal (just need an email address). Links below:

Wireguard or IKEv2

Just go to your products/services and select the Beta VPN Service. Your config info will be there. (Looks like this). No email will be sent to you for this beta, and the configuration is automatically generated upon checkout.

Sign ups are limited, and may be closed at any time. And of course, any account may be closed at any time if we suspect abuse during this beta. If abuse begins to become a problem, we may require a small deposit that will be refunded at the end of the beta period for new accounts. But for now, have at it. Just be good and mindful of others.

!!! This beta is only available in our Idaho, USA location right now !!!

How long is it free for?: I don't know. Probably a month, at least.

Can I test a different location instead of Idaho?: No. This is where we have the most spare resources and plentiful bandwidth. Production service locations are listed below.

Production service will be available in:

USA: Idaho, Nevada, Florida, New York
Europe: Luxembourg, Netherlands

We may add additional locations in the future, but the above six locations will be our starting six. In these six locations, we are already setup to use our own IP space and ASN, which is an important feature for us when offering this.

Will you have an app?: No, and we don't have any plans for one. This is a barebones service and the configuration works with the official Wireguard client app.

Want to know when we enter production?

Hey peoples,

So as a part of the project I am currently working on I am going to be doing some free shared webhosting. Just for small sites to help people get into it and get things up and running. These accounts are not meant for full blown, big hit count sites but should be alright for low traffic, static, or even a blog that has low traffic.

I am giving out five accounts to start but I wish to see them used. Which means if you do not intend to use it please do not take one.

The package is:

1.5 GB Space
50 GB Bandwidth
2 Domains
10 Sub Domains
2 Databases
2 Emails

The server utilizes Debian 11, Mariadb, PHP 8.1, Apache with Nginx proxy, LetsEncrypt, PhpMyAdmin, it has an installer with WordPress is that is your fancy.

The server is located in Seattle.

Basically these are test runs to see how things will pan out, but hey it is a free account.

If you are interested letme know here and I shall PM login details.

This offer is exclusive to LES as I have stopped visiting the OGF.

Friendly greetings to all! 🌎🌍

As of January 18, 2023 free accounts remain available! However the server is set to cancel on February 7, 2023. The cancellation might be revoked. Users might be invited to transfer to a different server. This server might be available for transfer if someone wants it.

What's New?

Proxmox seems to have been installed on a MetalVPS antique Intel node at Hetzner FSN1.

Want a free account? Maybe with sudo? 👍 Right now plenty of server resources are available because there is nobody using the FSN1 node except @Not_Oles. Fair use, but your VM specs don't have to be tiny. 🐷

Maybe VMs might be IPv6/128 only for now? If you have only IPv4, perhaps head over to Route48.org or Hurricane Electric Tunnel Broker to add free IPv6 capability. Also consider putting your web service behind a CDN which allows access via IPv4.

Maybe LXC only for now?

Node Specs

Intel Core i9-9900K

1 x HDD SATA 16 TB Enterprise

2 x SSD M.2 NVMe 1 TB

4 x RAM 32768 MB DDR4

NIC 1 Gbit Intel I219-LM

Location: FSN1

1 x Primary IPv4, 1 x IPv6/64

Hardware rented from Hetzner for € 81.70 / month.

Node OS: Proxmox for now! 🤩 Gentoo or FreeBSD or NetBSD might or might not be coming soon! ❤️

VM OS: Whatever you/we install!

Who?

MetalVPS is a project of @Not_Oles a/k/a Tom Miller a/k/a the clueless™ guy.

Where?

MetalVPS currently has nodes in Falkenstein, Germany 🇩🇪; Dallas, Texas USA 🇺🇸; and Fremont, California USA 🇺🇸.

The Dallas and Freemont nodes are not included in this free offer.

Why?

Why not? It's fun to play with and learn about servers, operating systems, and the internet.

@Not_Oles uses very little of his MetalVPS servers' capacity. It's better to offer the extra capacity to others than to waste it. 🤔

Sometimes, when @Not_Oles hasn't run installimage for awhile, he misses it. 😢

Maybe the requirement (please see below, How To Sign Up) to accompany applications with a link to a post here on LES where you helped someone else might encourage our wonderful Low End Spirit!

Warnings!

Clueless™ administrator! 😀 @Not_Oles frequently messes up! 😱

@Not_Oles is especially clueless™ about Proxmox since he is a Proxmox noob. 🤗

Sometimes trusted MetalVPSians might or might not get sudo. 🙈🙉🙊

MetalVPS usually has no billing panel and no server control panel. It's all command line until you install a GUI or activate whatever pre-installed GUI you want. 🆕 Maybe you can use the Proxmox web GUI. Maybe you can make your VM with the Proxmox command line! 🤗

MetalVPS has no onboarding and no knowledge base. ♒︎ If you want to make a VM, you need to know or be willing to research about how to do it.

Account delivery might take a while! 😴 Accounts might be difficult to get, and there might not be very many accounts, because @Not_Oles enjoys servers that are not crowded. 🍔 @Not_Oles will go especially slowly on this node! 🐢

Both individual accounts and the entire server are subject to cancellation at any time without advance notice! 💥

No warranty, to the extent permitted by applicable law. No service level agreement. Not for business use. Intended especially for computer learning and fun! 🤑

White Hat stuff only, please! No copyright violations, please.

MetalVPS.com is an indie project of @Not_Oles a/k/a Tom Miller with help from the MetalVPSians and many other friends. MetalVPS.com is not a project of lowendspirit.com, lowendtalk.com, Hetzner, leveloneservers.com, or of Cloudie Networks, LLC. 👨‍💻

Other MetalVPSians might be able to see your account name, some of the processes you are running, and much other information. So, please do not put confidential information on the server. 🤔

How To Sign Up

Please post in this thread.

Please include in your request a link to a post here on LES where you helped someone else.

Friendly greetings to all! 🌎🌍

What's New?

Ubuntu Jammy seems to have been installed on a MetalVPS Intel i9-9900K node at Hetzner Helsinki.

Want a free account? Maybe with sudo? 👍 Right now plenty of server resources are available because there is nobody using the HEL1 node except @Not_Oles. Fair use, but, if you make a VM, your VM specs don't have to be tiny. 🐷

Node Specs

Intel Core i9-9900K

2 x RAM 32768 MB DDR4

2 x SSD M.2 NVMe 1 TB RAID 0

100 GB /altroot partition

NIC 1 Gbit Intel I219-LM

Location: HEL1-DC4

1 x Primary IPv4, 1 x IPv6/64

Hardware rented from Hetzner for € 53.70 / month.

Node OS: Ubuntu Jammy for now! 🤩 NetBSD might or might not be coming soon! ❤️

VM OS: Whatever you install!

Who?

MetalVPS is not a registered entity. Instead, MetalVPS is an indie project of @Not_Oles IRL Tom Miller a/k/a the clueless™ guy.

Why?

Maybe the request (please see below, How To Sign Up) to accompany applications with links to posts here on LES where you asked for tech help or helped someone else with a tech question might encourage our wonderful Low End Spirit!

Warnings!

Clueless™ administrator! 😀 @Not_Oles frequently messes up! 😱

@Not_Oles is especially clueless™ about Ubuntu since he is an Ubuntu noob. 🤗

Sometimes trusted MetalVPSians might or might not get sudo. 🙈🙉🙊

RAID 0 is faster, but, if one drive goes, everything is gone. 🔥

MetalVPS usually has no billing panel and no server control panel. It's all command line until you install a GUI or activate whatever pre-installed GUI you want. 🆕 Maybe you can install and use some kind of web GUI. Maybe you can make your VM with the Ubuntu command line!

It might blow up! We or you might reinstall the node! 🤦‍♂️

MetalVPS.com is an indie project of @Not_Oles IRL Tom Miller with help from the MetalVPSians and many other friends. MetalVPS.com is neither a project of lowendspirit.com nor a project of Hetzner. 👨‍💻

Other MetalVPSians might be able to see your account name, some of the processes you are running, and much other information. So, please do not put confidential information on the server. 🤔

I have this old relic of a server :

Dell poweredge R520
-2x intel xeon 2407 cpus
-32gb ddr3 ecc memory
-8 x 2tb sas hdd disks
-Rack rails included

Tested and working, has been used for storage for a long time. Not needed anymore, and since it is hard to get anything for it locally, i would like to give it to someone here, who would actually use it for something useful. The server market here is very limited, and for those who are actually running such equipment here, they want newer hardware, and not old relics like this. Yes i can post it locally and give it away, but then it would just get in the hands of someone looking to make money. I want to give the server to someone who actually are going to USE IT, and not just resell it for a few $$

To get the server, you have to :
-Have a account here who isnt brand new, and have some not spammy posts from it.
-Be able to pick it up, or arrange / pay for shipping
-Tell us what you are going to use it for
-When recieved, show us that you are actually using it, and not just reselling it for profits.

The server is located in Eastern Norway. If you are able to pick it up, it would be 100% for free. If you cannot pick it up, i can arrange shipping, at the recievers cost

If this is not allowed, please just delete the post.

Heres a bad photo of the actual server :

Did you always want to have IPv6 at home, but your ISP doesn't realise it's 2022 and refused to deploy it?
Have you ever thought how cool it would be to have your own personal IPv6 block with your own whois information on it?
Just imagine... how awesome it would be able to do real-world BGP and control your own IPv6 space?
Imagine, no more! We want to formally introduce Route48.org! Your new free TunnelBroker, IPv6 network allocator, and BGP session / IPv6 transit provider! Yes Free, instant, and automatic!

What is Route48, and why should we care?

The idea behind this project is to enable a regular user to learn, use and play with IPv6, BGP, and networking in a safe, free and automated manner. As an LIR it is our responsibility to promote and endorse the use of IPv6 to our end clients and serve them with the opportunity to learn and use IP resources (in this case IPv6 resources)
We take pride in knowing that we are actively supporting the adoption of IPv6 for users that would otherwise find it too difficult. But now, without further ado lets go over the features of this new platform:

IPv6 Tunnel Broker

Route48's tunnel broker functionality enables any user to create what is called a 6in4 tunnel. This gives you the ability to create a simple, VPN-like, tunnel where you get allocated a full /48 IPv6 block and you can route all your IPv6 traffic through one of our nodes. 6in4 tunnel enables any user to bring IPv6 into their home network or to a server that is IPv4 only. From over 13 geographical locations (and growing) you're able to choose the location that is closest to you or your server.

Automated IPv6 prefix Allocation

Everyone wants to have their IP space and be able to manage the space themselves. Well, now you can, and you can do this for free. In Route48 we can assign and allocate multiple IPv6 prefixes, this means you can control the name, and country and even add your RIPE maintainer to the assigned IPv6 network. You can even take the newly assigned IPv6 space to your hosting providers and ask them to announce the prefix on their network and route the IPv6 space to your existing server(s). We provide LOAs, and each allocation is automatically signed with an RPKI ROA and IRR object. Let's also keep in mind how much of a perfect excuse this would be to learn how to manage IP resources on the RIPE database, securely and safely using your RIPE account.

Automated BGP Sessions

Now we all know that once you have your IP address, the next step is to get them announced and routed on the internet. While you can use the allocated address space with whatever upstream you wish, Route48 offers automatic BGP sessions over your IPv6 tunnels. This means you can start exporting and announcing your newly allocated IPv6 networks using your BGP sessions and route them to where you wish! (Free and automated IPv6 transit for your newly allocated IPv6 space)

Route48 Global Network & Sponsors

Route48 is proud to be able to offer so many different node locations for 6in4 tunnels and for transit, as of right now we have nodes in 13 different locations around the world (and a few more in the works)
Yes, all of this is free! But how? Well, we are lucky enough to have a few hosting providers who were willing to sponsor IP space and servers for this project, this is the reason we can offer such a diverse number of locations with such flexible and automated features.

Further Disclosure...

This project is a joint partnership between Cloudie Networks & Zappie Host. Administration of all nodes in use provided by our sponsors and directly, are done so by only Cloudie Networks, & Zappie Host.

In short, this platform can empower end-users to do more with IPv6 and be less locked into what your hosting provider or ISP provides you. Let's be honest, who doesn't want an IPv6 address that has the words b00b in it :P

P.S. we love feedback, criticism, and suggestions. If you have an idea or even a question about this project, we would love to hear it!

Get free NAT VPS:
1. Make a free account
2. Make container, make sure to make it private and "blank", with either ubuntu 16.04 or 18.04

3. Go into container settings, make it invite-only and readonly for invites unless you want to actually share it

4. Enable always on
5. Forward ports if needed
6. Start container with the terminal icon, run passwd and set a new password

7. Go into settings again to check ssh port
8. Connect and enojy!

by default they add a broken repo to the ubuntu 16.04 image (possibly also the 18.04 image, didn't test), you can safely remove it by removing /etc/apt/sources.list.d/cloudfoundry-cli.list

Good afternoon,

We're looking for some help from the community and in return we will pay in either the form of a VPS or Instance credits.

Design Contest:

Help us define out brand colour scheme!
I think we can all agree that our colouring is not very pleasant on the eyes, we want to define our branding with a set of fonts, colours and general design guidelines. Below is a screenshot of the micronode panel as things stand. If you're a design/photoshop wizz and you can make an improvement that impresses us you will win 2x Micronode credits for one year!

The layout must remain the same, colour changes and font changes only please!

Technical Guides Contest:
Have you installed wordpress on a Micronode VM or Instance?
Have you setup a popular web application, game server or service that you feel other people may want to setup?

We need technical guides! Guides should ideally be submitted in the following formats: .pdf, .docx, Google Docs.

Comment below if you would like to write a guide and let us know the general idea, If we feel that this is something we need the winners will receive a VPS in any of our locations with up to 512MB RAM and 20GB Disk!

The prizes are open to negotiation, impress us and we'll make it worth your while!

Web Design Contest:
Micronode doesn't have a website... I know I know, we haven't exactly gotten our priorities correct here.

We need a basic website to showcase our products, this can be Wordpress or static. It doesn't need to be mindbogglingly amazing but it does need to look professional.

We can negotiate a prize or payment for this one but don't expect fortunes, we can discuss this in DM.

Technically free, but next time you see someone in need, help them out; perhaps you could give a homeless guy a few bucks or buy them a coffee, or donate a small sum to your favourite charity, give something to your local food bank or clothes bank, whatever, just be nice to someone

Pushups are not a valid form of payment for these servers

Rules

Only open to LES members whose account is older than 3 months and at least 10 non-spammy posts

Please only claim a server if you are genuinely interested in continuing the service and want to give it a couple of weeks to test, or if you missed out on the original offer

If you just want something to abuse for a couple of weeks, please don't bid. If you just want to scalp it, definitely do not bid. All these providers are excellent, and they deserve more respect

I have contacted @Advin, @mxmla and @Shakib respectively for permission to do a transfer

Maximum 1 win per person

You have until Wednesday 30 November 23:59 UTC to state your interest

Winners will be determined using @yoursunny style beacon rather than first come, first served

If you win, you need to have an account registered with the provider, and PM your email address with 24 hours so that I can raise a ticket for the transfer

How to claim

Post ONE of the following messages in this thread
# I LOVE FREE SERVERS ❤️ LUCKY DIP
# I LOVE FREE SERVERS ❤️ ADVIN
# I LOVE FREE SERVERS ❤️ HOSTCRAM
# I LOVE FREE SERVERS ❤️ SERVER FACTORY

Determining the winner

I'll be getting a source of randomness from the first beacon after Thursday 1 December 00:00 UTC (unix time 1641945600), will post further details once I've stolen it from @yoursunny figured out how to get it right

It seems the NIST beacon is still broken, it'll take longer for me to work out which round of the CF beacon I'll need, but I'll update before the deadline, once I've figured it out

I'll be using this command line to choose the winner:
BEACON=xxxxxxx ; for i in user1 user2 user3 user4 user5 ; do echo -n "$i-$BEACON" | sha1sum - |sed -e "s/-/$i/" ; done| sort
(but substituting xxxxx and user1 etc) and using the top results

I will choose the top 3 sorted results

From these, where they have indicated a preference, the earliest in the sorted results will win their preferred server

Anyone in the first 3 sorted results who expressed lucky dip will be given a server from those remaining, in the order Advin, HostCram, Server Factory

If there are still unallocated servers (because multiple people had a preference for the same machines), there will be additional rounds for each unallocated server

For each server, all those who expressed a preference for it, along with an equal number of people from the lucky dip pool, will enter a raffle and the top result after sorting using the string "$i-$srv-$BEACON" followed by SHA1 will win, where srv will be adv, hc or sf

The lucky dip candidates will be taken from the sorted results in the first round in order, and will only be entered into one lucky dip round, unless there aren't enough, in which case the list will wrap around

I hope to announce the results around noon Thursday 1 December 12:00 UTC, assuming I haven't made it so complicated for myself that I completely fail

Anyone who hasn't PM'd me within 24 hours will forfeit the server, and I'll choose the next lucky dip winner from the sorted list

Why is it so complicated?

Choose one:

Beats me

I didn't want to do any work this morning, so I made up these stupid rules instead

I wanted to make sure that people who specifically wanted one of the servers had a reasonable chance of getting it

I wanted to make sure that people who chose lucky dip also had similar odds of winning as those who chose a particular server

Hi everyone, I spent a few months working on this storage project which is still in alpha but I really need basic testing just to ensure I'm not the only one that thinks it's stable (and then I can at least call it beta).

I'm looking for at least 3 reputable persons on the forum (but preferrably not providers for obvious reasons of competition at this point) who would test the service. Reputable should be people with at least 1 year of existence here or on OGF. At least 50 non-spammy comments would be nice.

This service will be "free" for AT LEAST A MONTH OR MORE (but obviously I need feedback as to whether it's stable or one experiences any quirks - so that's the catch). As a great thank you if issues are found, I'd really try to extend that time as a thank you to the testers. There might be times where the panel could go down when I do updates but that does not affect the SFTP access in any way.

If all goes well, I want to develop a second phase which will add some super cool features (since right now it's just SFTP access).

Anyways, enough talking, here's what you get:

100 GB SFTP Storage (how boring) but...
1. This 100 GB of SFTP is on RAID 1 and is located in Canada (250 mbit unlimited: OVH).
2. The storage is NEVER OVERSOLD (which hopefully means access times should rarely if ever be affected by oversold storage). At this point, looking at a max of 20 users if it's 100 GB blocks, less if it's portioned in bigger blocks.
3. The 100 GB is replicated to another dedicated server (which also is on RAID 1) in a different geographical region (in this case London - OVH) periodically (more details can be provided once you're selected to test) and will be adjusted based on feedback and testing.
4. A custom built "technical" storage panel that doesn't just show you just disk space. I'm nearly sure you've never seen ANYTHING like this (even though it's not necessarily aesthetically pleasing) but when I say ANYTHING - let's just say you literally know what's going on with the server and storage details. Hint: IO WAIT, TEMP, UPTIME AND DEEPER DETAILS. This is a super important part that I hope makes the service worth the planned price (if it ever reaches public release).
5. And most importantly, "you can sleep good at night" since you don't have to guess what's going on about your storage, it's stored in 2 different geographical reasons and you in theory have access to both servers in the rare event one of the servers go down (both accessible via SFTP with the same login details).

This package when I did the numbers would be around $4.50 a month (assuming 50 cents out of this goes to the payment gateway) if I ever reach the point of releasing to the public.

I understand this is totally expensive but you'll get more details as I said other than "cloud" storage where you just totally rely on the word of the company. I hope the value of having to not worry while sleeping would be worth it?

I have personal interest in this project since I plan to also be my own "customer" - I really want to sleep better at night knowing my data is safe from loss (to a higher degree). This in theory is still not considered a backup but I think it's more robust than guessing and hoping people are doing your storage right for you.

So please PM if you're interested (it's a manual set up and would require you to register an account at ONDDNS.com since the panel uses my own SSO technology).

Thanks again at least for reading even if you don't decide to PM in.

Additional rules: You agree to not screenshot, share further details with others at this point until launch IF all goes well - launch would be delayed by a few months well IF I get to 2nd phase of development.

There's only an IP address and root password, with no control panel access.
It's uncertain whether the garden is being watched.
