HETZNER CONTINUES ITS GROWTH IN THE US WITH A NEW LOCATION
West Coast - Here we come: Today, we officially launched our second location in the USA for cloud products in Hillsboro, Oregon, just outside of Portland, a location ripe for future expansion. Clients in the region can now benefit from the lower latency, and thus experience even speedier cloud performance. The region surrounding Hillsboro is nicknamed the “Silicon Forest” because so many respected international IT companies call it home.

The strategic location of Hillsboro is very exciting for us. In addition to the first location on the East Coast, this new West Coast location will allow us to provide better connections, including important links to submarine cables located in Hillsboro, which connect North America to Asia. The network connection is currently an impressive 400 Gbit/s to ensure rapid data exchange, and we will gradually improve this connection in the future.

You will now have your choice of five locations in Europe and North America, allowing you to make your cloud data geo-redundant, and thereby make your IT infrastructure more robust.

Just one year ago in Ashburn, Virginia, Hetzner launched its first location outside of Europe.

The new location at Hillsboro will host Hetzner Cloud servers mounted with AMD processors, and naturally, you will have access to all of the Hetzner Cloud features you already know and love, and at prices that are kind to your wallets.

With just a few clicks, you can configure and deploy new cloud instances, access handy features around the clock, mount or remove other resources such as block storage and snapshots, and scale your cloud resources up or down to meet your hourly needs.

I thought I'd start a discussion here where I can occassionally post smaller bits of Hetzner news, funny and cool pictures, and other random Hetzner stuff.

So here's the first piece of news:
We have our line of Storage Share products that are based on Nextcloud. One of the biggest criticisms when we launched them was that it wasn't possible to use your own domain. But now we are running a beta test for using domains of your choice. To participate in the beta, you need to have a Storage Share package. Then just pick a domain that you want, set up a CNAME record for it, and write us a quick support ticket via the admin interface (konsoleH). Our team will let you know when the domain is active.

Hetzner Dedicated Server + Debian -- How Can VMs Use All of the IPv4 Subnet IPs?

Hello LES!

Hetzner seems to have an interesting policy that outgoing packets from virtual machines ("VMs") using additional subnet IPs on dedicated servers must come from the known-to-Hetzner hardware MAC address of the server.

Thus, Hetzner wants VMs using subnet IPv4 addresses to use the server node's main IPv4 as the VM's gateway. If I understand correctly, the usual way to accomplish using the node's main IPv4 as a VM gateway means that the VMs cannot use all of the IP addresses in the node's IPv4 subnet.

However, could using layer 2 networking for IPv4 on the server node allow use of all of the additional IPv4 subnet addresses by VMs while still meeting Hetzner's requirements?

The subnet here is a /28 with 16 IP addresses. Would it be completely crazy to image that an /etc/network/interfaces configuration somewhat like the following might work to utilize all 16 of the IPv4 subnet IPs?

Hetzner Cloud Price Increase - CX11 / CPX11 & Floating IPs

Important customer information: Price adjustment for new CX11 und CPX11 and Floating IPv4 addresses

Dear Client
from the moment we launched Hetzner Cloud in 2018 we have continuously been working on expanding our platform and offering you an excellent price/performance ratio in cloud computing. Unfortunately, the prices to acquire IPv4 addresses have since increased dramatically and we have no choice but to respond. For a long time now, the pool of available IPv4 addresses has been almost empty at RIPE, the European IP address management agency. That's why RIPE stopped assigning IPv4 nets. Because of this situation, there is now a fast-growing market in IPv4 address trading with many active brokers, such as on https://ipv4.global/reports/. Supply and demand determine the price at IPv4 brokers, so the prices have skyrocketed.

We have tried hard to avoid passing on these higher prices to our customers, and have accepted the economic loss until now. However, the prices have increased so dramatically that we can no longer do this. We unfortunately must increase our prices.

Starting on 1 August 2021, the price for newly created Floating IPs (IPv4) will be increased as stated below.

Starting on 1 September 2021, the price for newly created Cloud Servers (CX11 and CPX11) will be increased as stated below.

Demand for IPv4 addresses will likely remain very high. And we will need to continue to purchase nets. We assume that the prices for IPv4 addresses will continue to rise, and that we will also need to increase our prices again in the future. Prices for IPv4 will likely remain high until after IPv6 has become much more popular.

We are confident that this is still a good price/performance ratio and hope for your understanding.

Thoughts? Some quite big price adjustments there, although they haven't changed since introduction.

NodeWatch get mail spam alert without suspending

We are with Hetzner and recently a set of users have started sending spam mails from our VPS Servers. I just wanted to know whether there is an option to get the alert according to a certain threshold without suspending the container in nodewatch?

Or is there any other software that you guys use?

Hello, I need to let go AX-41 nvme in HEL1-DC4. Will share the Transfer token. Superb performance. Just got a more powerful system for my needs, so need to let it go.

Renewal EURO 34 (not inclusive of VAT). In a couple days I believe it expires (25-26)

I don't expect anything (maybe goodwill, pass it forward, something to your preferred charity).

Would prefer sending it out to an established member - First come first serve - With atleast 30 non-spammy comments since June 2020. Definitely not for someone who has just registered in the recent days.

Why do most server providers of Germany don't offer internal DirectAdmin licences?

Most of the 'clowd' & dedicated server providers from Germany which are popular in LowEndUniverse don't provide internal DirectAdmin license for example Hetzner Contabo Webtropia PHP-Friends netcup Ultravps.eu etc. What is the reason for that?
