My choice for router hardware is to always look at the OpenWRT Table Of Hardware (TOH) and go from there - but I've moved on from consumer network gear - I run second hand Aruba stuff at home; their IAP series are great bang for the buck for standal…

(Quote) I've not had any issues with my VPS from them in regards to CPU usage, and I am definitely not letting mine idle. I would expect if you're hitting close to the limit but not actively trying to hurt your neighbors on the node they'll probably…

(Quote) Thanks for the reassurance. I rely on my hosting plan for email and website usage quite a bit so I am grateful to know that nothing is being changed on that front at this time. :) Much love

I worry as a SmallWeb customer what this means for me if there is a problem. No issues so far, but I just hope I don't get left behind since the NB acquisition.

(Quote) I definitely don't feel like I was negative in my response I posted - Just more concerned - I wouldn't want OP to launch something, not have it at least break even long term and lose money. I really do wish the best and wanted to at least ma…

Awesome alternative with extra features to icanhazip... very nice! Just be aware that Command & Control malware might also utilize this, so keep a good eye on your logs for abuse. Worth reading from the owner of icanhazip... https://major.io/20…

While I like your idea of coming up with unique features I'm not sure it will justify the cost to the customer at the end of the day. Only way I could think of making yourself stand out would be something like shared unmetered 10Gbps and storage fas…

Sounds like this could be similar to http://ix.io/ - Very nice.

For getting my public IP, I use https://icanhazip.com/ - It's curl/wget friendly which is really great for scripting & command line usage. I also like checking RDNS sometimes; I use https://remote.12dt.com/ for this.

Instead of using a WiFi adapter, why not use a Mesh WiFi setup that allows you to plug into the remote station? Netgear Orbi, ASUS AiLink, and Eero Mesh allow you to do these types of things. They also have stronger antennas and higher power limits …

I like the idea of a "high score" table of power on hours! Sounds like fun.

(Quote) I for one would instantly buy into Costco Cloud Compute. ;)

I just use SystemRescueCD, nothing more. That + a Windows install USB is all I find I ever need... but I've been out of the "PC Repair" game for a long time now.

Surprised I didn't see anyone mention SmallWeb (Part of Nexus Bytes, but I've been using them prior to their acquisition).

Broadcom doing what they do best: Buy out other companies and then let them just marinate and ferment.

I'd be interested in taking it off your hands for the renewal price.

The way I see it, is that if a hosting provider gives you a disk quota, you can use it how you see fit (without violating other TOS such as disk I/O usage, copyrighted material, etc.) - If they don't then it's up to them on how they want to police &…

(Quote) I think a better way would be to have an external bot test a list of iperf locations and have the script call the list (via curl or something) so the git history won't be a mess of changes just because a host goes up or down. Just my $0.02.…

I've been using Debian for my servers since day 1. It's got the same level of stability and backing as CentOS had and I've had no issues with it that wasn't caused by my own stupidity. If Debian were to suddenly die off, I am not sure what distro I'…

Thanks for your public service! There are not enough iperf public servers out there especially ones to test speeds higher than 1Gbps. So thank you!
-
Maybe you could instead lower the speeds and increase the bandwidth? Say 250Mbps with 2-3TB? I personally would even be OK with 50Mbps for a backup storage server like this, but that's just me.

Great offers from a fantastic provider. If you're in need of hosting in Dallas, Ian is your guy.

Thank you to all who provided offers here. I ended up going with @mxmla 's services at this time.

(Quote) I did not check the time on my end and it turns out my PC was 16 minutes behind. I should have taken more due diligence on my end to reject Amadex's bid confirmation, and as a result I am abstaining from participating in these domain auction…

I can - I paid 18 EUR to cover the Paypal transfer fees. Send me a DM and we can get this taken care of. I will be going to bed soon though, so if you don't hear from me right away just be aware I've gone to sleep.

I already paid for the domain... what do I do now???
