(Quote) I hope not. The best "gift" to customers is to get the ship fully righted and make everything functional & reliable. That's a better reward for their patience than feeding bots & scalpers in my view.

(Quote) Running cost is more expensive than Azure spot as well (about double).
-
(Quote) That's not particularly helpful without the number of videos.
-
(Quote) You haven't said how much encoding time you need, which is the key question.
-
(Quote) The results highly depend on the GPU. We've found NVENC with Turing+ architecture is pretty good. Agreed about the number of codecs, but that's only relevant if you want to use an encoder which the GPU doesn't support. In the end it depen…

(Quote) Good comment. We do this in Azure with a queueing system. (Image) We've got instances for CPU and GPU, and generally lean towards an 8-core CPU which codes 4 streams + thumbnails in real time. GPU is faster but costs more per hour, so CPU…

(Quote) Same. I'd be happy to have mine re-created without data just to get some stability.

(Quote) nvm, I guess you opened a ticket.

When ordering a server you can typically put whatever you want in those fields, and use them more for your own reference. Open to correction, but my understanding is the ordering system requires those fields and providers can't make them optional.

This broken record isn't really helping anyone. (Quote) @VirMach can you please refund him or something?
-
(Quote) Verizon also do something similar if you use their DNS. In the management page of the router they provide, there was an option to turn it off.
-
(Quote) I have 8 VPSes with VirMach in 6 different DCs. They are all online and the worst uptime, even with all the drama, is 99.65%, https://hetrixtools.com/report/uptime/3f0a5c4ee430e097d368e3fc529fdbd5/ We've been told that problems are affecti…

Termux if really necessary

The IP changes have worked smoothly for me so far. It is good to have an overlap where both old & new are functional. I have experienced much worse with other providers, e.g. hard switch with no notice, only informed of new IP after it is activ…

Just to be clear, are you looking for dedicated CPU, or fair share?
-
Some of these ranges are already on my own iptables ban lists. This isn't going to be fun.

(Quote) Not asking, telling.

I am thinking of dropping a HostHatch 16GB / 80GB NVMe / 3x Xeon E5-2690 @ 3.0 (1 dedicated) in Sydney, might be a bit below your CPU specs.

(Quote) Carrier-1 is fine, there's no particular reason for you to avoid them. It was more questioning why limit your options. The problem is not so much Infomart as whoever's gear is upstream. There's been 4 network issues resulting in Hetrix/AWS …
-
(Quote) Yes, network does suck. Why does it have to be Carrier-1? You could go to DallasColo (Equinix/Infomart), or Stack DCs have lower-end options in Dallas, or ...
-
(Quote) Yes, the server cost will basically be zero difference. The colo for 1U is approximately half 2U though, and that is the killer if I'm doing it for myself. I already have a (1U) DL360 at my house and I am tempted to move that to colo and r…
-
I let this sit for a week or so, and it seemed to "die a death", which is fair enough. I'm probably still going to do the colo for my own needs but will limit it to 1U without the same potential for expansion. I'm going to re-think what t…

(Quote) If you're fine with Helsinki, then it is a good deal.

(Quote) They might (who knows what happens to future prices), but I'm not too worried. There are similar offers from others. They are going to assume that not everyone will max out their power allowance 100% of the time. Anyway, my retail cost is…

(Quote) (Image) So that's $65 with tax for the colo. Maximum density I assume is 12x16TB drives, so 160TB usable which is $0.40/TB/mo. Minimum density is whatever we decide is viable, but for the sake of discussion assume it is 64TB which is $1/…

(Quote) Tax is 8.25% on most things. All warnings duly noted.

(Quote) Seems like about 10% from the FAQ, but not disclosed yet. (Quote)

(Quote) Purely because (a) they have a 5 year warranty and averaging the cost over the warranty period makes them less per TB/mo and (b) Backblaze have staff on hand to just swap them out whereas we have to get remote hands to do it. (Quote) Yes, t…

(Quote) Fair comments; I already have Servarica and that's great but don't want to put all my eggs in one basket with them. Not willing to use MS or Google. I'm also looking at shutting down several other VMs which I currently am spending a few hu…

Based on what people have said so far, see if this "straw man" outline sounds interesting. Start-up: * I'll put up a DL380 plus 2x16TB for RAID6 parity. * Maximum of 10 people in the "consortium". * Start by indicating an initi…

(Quote) It is a good point. A few "gotchas": the price/TB does not take RAID into consideration as I've been doing, so if you take that 4x10TB server and put it in RAID6, the price per TB is doubled. You also only get that price with 20T…
-
(Quote) Those concerns are real. I don't look at it as "selling" at all, I look at it as cost-sharing amongst a restricted/invite-only group. So to be clear there will be no "ordering" web site and yes, there will be discrimina…
-
(Quote) Probably a bit on the low side, but maybe keep an eye on how it develops. Do you have a target for "really cheap"? I suppose at some price point it 4TB becomes cheaper than 1TB somewhere else.
-
(Quote) $2.50/TB is beatable. I guess HH got you to prepay for a year or two (which funded the drive purchase). More generally (for everyone): As mentioned, this would be a "cost sharing" project - I'm not a hosting company and don't hav…

(Quote) * Doesn't have to be a VPS: true, but the server still has a cost to be spread around even if the resources are idle. So either we allocate the resources, or leave them shared. Giving people the option (dedicated or shared) is also fine; j…

(Quote) I would ideally like to avoid the ones used by the other VPS providers in case I end up with backups in the same building, but not sure how realistic that is. So probably not ColoCrossing, Dedipath, QuadraNet, Psychz. Currently looking Equin…
