Cogent's pretty brutal for sales. I'm fairly sure if you can't deliver they start chopping heads after a few quarters. When it's coming to end of quarter you can usually get some stupid deals from the under performing reps. Francisco

(Quote) The Intel conference was bloody boring. It's CES and they were spending it all on AI and XEON's. Francisco

(Quote) Simply doing ./setup auto works pretty good and puts it into a "cPanel transferrable" state. MySQL 5.7, PHP 7.2 and the usual trimmings, etc. Francisco

(Quote) Honestly we seem to have better reach use Discord or email than Twitter. The upgrade itself was done in around 10 minutes. We took snapshots of both the SQL and webservers, applied the update, logged in. Its only once we did our final check…

(Quote) 512mb works fine. Might need a bit more temporary swap during compiling but it's fine, especially for just DNS. Francisco

If 512MB works then you can get a slice. Francisco

Looks like shit finally blew out. Francisco

Good job team. Francisco

You can save IP's for the IPMI by not putting it on public IP's. Please, do yourself a favor, put a small switch and a small raspi or something that runs a private LAN (with private IP's) for IPMI's. Francisco

(Quote) I pointed him to these forums. I think the main issue is that in the case of cPanel they have a map of username->database, that way you can have cases of someone having a completely different prefixed database to their actual username. …

(Quote) I guess? I dunno. I bring it up because cPanel did the same thing years ago where they cut out Fedora, FreeBSD, and a few others they supported. It was just a real drag on their staff to both develop and support it. Mark seems determined …

CentOS 7. I'll be very surprised if DA supports much more than CentOS and probably FreeBSD by this time next year. Francisco

I thought this was another CC thread. Carry on. Francisco

(Quote) ARIN lets you put whatever you want, you can even just make a record that says 'CUSTOMER ALLOCATED BLOCK' for privacy reasons. Thing is, Colocrossing has a long history of forging SWIP records for the purpose of fattening their records. Th…

(Quote) Right, there's always a breaking point. I know @smarthost has given his opinion of 'fuck that noise' on any sort of per-core pricing, as has @MikeA, but what is your break point? Any cost more than $1/month/core? Francisco

(Quote) I'm so confused about the girls in there. (Quote) Solus has a lot of features that no one uses. I don't know a single customer that uses the PXE system for instance. Infact almost no host that's renting servers is going to be able to use th…

Poor @Nick getting fed to the wolves because his bosses are a bunch of shitbags. Francisco

(Quote) Honest to god opinion? No, at least in my eyes. Virtualizor does some completly wacky things in how they built their system. Its really really really easy for nodes to become out of sync because they try to run a multi-master like setup. T…

(Quote) You have OpenVZ still, no? If so, your options are nil. Even Proxmox only supports it on v3 which dates back to before OpenVZ 7 was even in BETA. Best you can all hope for is that Solus comes in at < $3/month/core or less. I don't see …

(Quote) Yeah, that's basically what I meant by "proof of concept". WHMCS & Solus are going to be the main places they can milk. Francisco

(Quote) They've been doing this for a while. Plenty of offers get put up as "Los Angeles Datacenter", "Dallas Datacenter", etc, but its just CC. Sometimes they list the building address instead. They never mention its CC when …

(Quote) We upgraded our OpenVZ 6 nodes to OpenVZ 7. I have too many users using really old installs, or installs that have had 3 - 4 rounds of random patches to make it 'sorta' work that KVM conversations were never reliable, or even possible. We …

(Quote) There's paid licenses for it, I just can't find a copy of it. From what I remember the paid addon was like $15 and it was if you wanted to offer a managed DNS offering without shared hosting. Francisco

I've yet to see a clean upgrade. I've had a bunch of users try but it seems GLIBC doesn't go on properly. Francisco
