(Quote) Hi @TigersWay! Would you please suggest a few good alternatives that you might consider if you were in M&M's shoes? Thanks!

Inside KVM also running 5.11. GB5 single core score is 1454. Oopsie! Hall of shame time! Apparently I didn't give this one an IPv6 address. I will fix that. Umm. GB5 bare metal score 1725 - 1454 = 271 GB5 points penalty for running inside KVM-qem…

Rerunning yabs. Same setup as above, kernel 5.11.2 from fabianishere running on Hetzner AX101 bare metal. GB5 single core slightly up: first run was1673, now 1725.

Yabs inside a Proxmox KVM. Bare metal is running 5.4.98-1-pve. The kernel in the KVM was updated to the latest Proxmox-edge-kernel, 5.11.2-1-pve. With 5.11.2-1-pve the KVM single core GB score was 1736. Previously, on the bare metal, the GB single…

When I previously posted yabs running on the AX101 bare metal the single core GB5 score was 1719. This was with whatever kernel was on stable Proxmox just before 5.4.98-1-pve, which seems to be what is running on the metal right now -- the kernel ha…

Yeah, 5.11.1-1 seems to work on a VPS. Will mess around some more on the VPS, then maybe try it on the node. Still waiting for one neighbor to say yes. He will. :) debian@debian-kvm:~$ uname -aLinux debian-kvm 5.11.2-1 #1 SMP 5.11.2-1 zen2 (Fri, 26…

@cybertech I just found out about https://github.com/fabianishere/pve-edge-kernel Maybe I can do something? Dunno yet. :)

@seriesn @Wolveix (Quote) I didn't even know about the edge kernel repository! Running 5.4.98-1-pve on bare metal AX101 for several days since recent dist-upgrade. No issues so far. Both LXC and KVM seem okay. FWIW.

(Quote) @nullroute When you mounted the disks in Rescue Mode could you then see the files with ls? Could you copy off whatever files you deem especially important?

OVH's messages suggest that the server is booted from the hard drive using an OVH bzimage kernel and is showing a login screen. Do you see the login screen? Did you try to login?

(Quote) Thank you! I was imagining it meant that LXC got more work done because it utilized the CPU for a longer time, i.e., higher CPU utilization and lower the idle time, the better. :)

Congrats again @Mason and @mikho !! Thanks to all the other fine candidates! Thanks to everybody who voted for me y igualmente todos¡

Wow! In at least one test LXC actually beats bare metal! I wasn't expecting that! Here is Figure 9 from Reventh Thiruvallur Vangeepuram's thesis, Performance Comparison of Cassandra in LXC and Bare metal: (Image) (Quote) That's a 17% difference …

To match @vyas, I ran another yabs on the node to test the consistency of the single core score on the bare metal AX101. The GB single core last time was 1719. This time 1710. The other thing that was consistent on this particular test were the bu…
