The only somewhat limitless clean energy can be only generated in space via solar panels. Everything else has a price. I believe wind power has the least negative effect but it's too unrealiable.

I think Elon is going to use Twitter as the de facto method of communication between Earth and Mars. Which quite frankly would be an ideal method to communicate, given the lag.
