Free Linux remote control software?

I'm looking for a way to control one Linux Mint computer from another, remote Linux Mint computer.
Something like DameWare for windows, but free.

It doesn't matter whether the software creates a new login session, or "logs in" to the existing session.

I'm using Windscribe VPN with an option of a static IP address and port forwarding (not sure if that's helpful, or a problem if both computers use the same static IP ).

The less command prompt work/learning, the better, but it's not a problem that I'm not willing to overcome if there aren't any GUI alternatives.

Oh, the use case:

I want to be able to use a remote computer for the time-consuming video editing (rendering is the right term?), see when it's over, let it run the next one, while I'm doing some other work far away, on my other computer.
And no, because of some minute fiddling needed, any batch processing is not an option (for now).

A bit lame, but would Chrome Remote Desktop work? I use it to control my Windows PC from my Chromebook. If Mint has a Chrome browser, it might just work. No hassle at all to setup and works even for gaming remotely. Very stable

I used to have X11vnc on Ubuntu desktop, so that it can be controlled remotely from my tablet.

• Local terminal and VNC clients can see the same display, and control the same cursor and keyboard.
• Initial login must be performed locally with monitor and keyboard, and then you can start X11vnc within the desktop environment. Root privilege is not needed.
• The machine must be physically secure, since anyone locally can access the session while you are controlling it via VNC.
• VNC protocol is insecure so you should run it over VNC if you are outside local area network.

I've been using AnyDesk for a few months and like it, other than it using a lot of data and not being able to consistently wake up my computer that connects via wifi.

Do you know of a good way to limit its bandwidth usage when using a phone (Android) to connect to a computer (Windows)? Even setting quality to "best reaction time" (lowest quality of the 3 options) on both devices, it uses bandwidth like crazy if I'm using mobile data. It once burned through >500MB of data during a 5-minute connection!
