Cheapest domain (top level domain) with cheap renewal too

Hello folks!

I was wondering what would be the cheapest domain name that you can purchase, and then also renew at a low price. I know there are many who offer cheap price for the first year then renew at a much higher price. What are the options?

And for registering any domain say .com or .io, which domain registrar will offer the cheapest registration and renewal? The registrar does need to be reliable with good track record.

Is there a good time to purchase a domain like Black Friday?

Thank you!!

  • I don't want to think about the stuff, so I use CloudFlare.

  • If I understood correctly, CloudFlare don't mark up the registrar price. So anyone cheaper than them is offering a discount to entice new customers which would be unprofitable if done longer-term. Or is that only true for some TLDs?

Maybe CloudFlare doesn't always get the lowest wholesale registry fee, as CloudFlare doesn't seem to have the lowest rates all the time.

Is there a way to view CloudFlare's domain pricing publicly?

  • Cloudflare's pricing should be the lowest (without going below the cost) for all normal domains that aren't country-codes. CCTLDs can charge whatever price they want to whoever they want, so they can say "You have to pay more because you're Cloudflare".

  • I usually use the below website to compare which domain is for low-cost in longer term

    tld-list.com
    tldes.com
    domcomp.com

Usually .ovh is cheapest option i think but might be there other options too like .my.id is for less than $1 per year but then registration rules vary.

I bookmarked this, but apparently it hasn't been updated in a long time...

  • tld-list can view per-domain price & sort on register and renew.
they also have price monitoring that will alert via email if some tld got to certain price you specify (required a member registration, free)
