Edit February 13, 2023: We hope to reinstall today with un-Proxmoxed Debian sid.

Bare metal traditional shell accounts and/or pretty much anything else Proxmox or Proxmox's underlying Debian can do.

Friendly greetings to all! 🌎🌍

    coder.io seems to be squatted.

Maybe you could try ed.io? NXDOMAIN for ed.io.

Yeah, code-server seems to be the fully open source version of Microsoft's partly closed source vscode.

Presumably you already also know about the ed editor and about the fun history of ed editor jokes. The ed editor jokes are what make me think about the ed.io domain.

I saw your post about transferring your AX41. and your post about transferring your VPS because you have another dedicated server. These posts that I saw make it sound like you have adequate server resources. Are you just joking about installing and using code-server on my EX100?

Yup, had moved client projects from VPS to a dedi earlier in 2022... Don't wanna host anything personal there; better to keep it separate.

I'd like to host/ test out the self-hosted VS code and the beefy CPU pulled me here.

Of course this is pure hobby/ learning for me so and getting my hands dirty on some Python coding... Maybe this could be something installed on the server and can be offered as an env for folks to learn coding?

    What are your thoughts?

Sounds like a good idea! Let's see if we can get code-server installed! I had it on another machine awhile back. So maybe I can install it again. At this moment, the electrician is here and the power is off while he is working. Might take awhile to get the power back. I will let you know. Thanks! :)

Hello, apologies for my absence. Electricians were here for a couple of days, rewiring, so no internet. Then I decided to try configuring IPv4 NAT and port forwarding for the VMs. NAT seems to be working because, from within the test container, curl to icanhazip.com gives me the expected main IPv4 of the server and the IPv6 of the container:

    root@ex100 ~ # lxc-attach -n 101
    ~ # curl -4 icanhazip.com
    65.109.119.181
    ~ # curl -6 icanhazip.com
    2a01:4f9:3051:1353::101
    ~ #

WAN ssh into the test container seems to be working fine over IPv6, but not with port forwarding over IPv4. I might post again about the IPv4 port forwarding, There also is a test KVM cooking.

@localhost On the vscode idea, might there might be at least three flavors: code from Microsoft, code-server from Hashicorp,](https://github.com/coder/code-server) and vscodium?

Hope everyone is enjoying a fun day! It's bright and sunny here! ☀️

  • I had test a lot of funny things on a server you provided before.
It is so convenient to test something on a server with good network speed and hight performance.
Can I request a new account on this server ?
    Thanks!

  • Heyo kind person!

May I want an account too? I will mainly use it to collect high-frequency market data for mainly research purposes. If my research succeeds, I also am willing to provide some horse power like you :)

Also willing to setup some development environment for intel-optimized AI libraries to use it with the very same research.

LES is lucky to have you.

    Cheers!

Thanks for your message! From https://lowendspirit.com/discussion/comment/43205/#Comment_43205 where you said

I'm also a user of Hetzner, cloudcone, gcp and I have a server on my own too.

it seems like you already have many resources.

Also, I am unfamiliar with your suggested uses, high-frequency market data research and Intel-optimized AI libraries.

Are you sure my server is a good fit for you?

    Thanks again! Best wishes!

Delighted to have you! Thanks for asking!

I grabbed your ssh key from the other server. Any chance you have a static IP (and maybe a backup static IP) from which access through the EX100's firewall can be allowed?

    Best wishes and kindest regards!

Yes, I am delighted to give you an account! Can you send me, please, your ed25519 ssh public key and a static IP (and maybe a static backup IP) from which access through the server firewall can be allowed? Can be IPv4 or IPv6 or one of each. Thanks!

Hi guys! I see that I have messages in my inbox from @subenhon and from @jcolideles. It's getting late here, so I will tend to the accounts tomorrow. @localhost Got your preference for code-server. • @Not_Oles Hello again.

The post belongs to 2 years before, Turkey's economy was way better then :) Right now USD/TRY parity has climbed from 8 to somewhere near 19, so I had to shut them down. Right now, the only server I have is from netcup. They are hard to beat at price/performance ratio. It was a joint effort by me and one of my friend, again due to the high exchange rate. However, I am to shut there down too because my friend decided not to continue anymore because, again, exchange rate. I was about to search for cheaper and affordable alternatives and saw your post so I gave it a shot.

3-core Epyc was more than sufficient for that data collection pipe. I haven't use it on 12900k but I heard that single core performance is better than those Epyc processors, so there is a good chance it will fit in. Other intel-optimized data science thing may not be necessary, but a nice to have. Since I got a Ryzen 5 3600 at home, those preprocessing part was somewhat slow, but certainly usable.

    Bests!

@localhost Friendly reminder if you still are interested.

Containers seem to be up for @subenhon and @jcolideles. PM sent to each of you.

WAN access via IPv6 and IPv4 NAT seems to be working from within the containers. However, IPv4 port forwarding from WAN to the containers isn't working yet. So, for the time being, IPv6 is required to access containers via ssh.

@furkey Thanks for your message! Several of my friends have visited Türkiye. They have told me stories of many kindnesses extended to them, wonderful food, and beautiful scenery. Of course, I would like to repay the kindnesses extended to my friends. But, for this server, I want to be able to change the operating system from time to time and repeatedly and randomly break whatever OS is installed at the moment. For your financial project, don't you need a stable platform? Best wishes nonetheless!

Kindnesses are the ones being done without expecting anything in return. Your kind words mean more than a server or anything else. Hope you can visit Turkiye too, and please don't forget to reach out to me if you do so. I would be more than happy to show you Turkish hospitality :)

Yeah, I need some kind of stable thing. Guess it was not meant to be for me. Thanks for giving a shot, thanks for the community service and thanks for being awesome!
