Probably going to get a plan to use for a VPN, that is a nice price. Mostly light usage, but unmetered bandwidth means not having to think about it! edit: vps ID 397

It really says something that nobody has mentioned Opera in this thread.

Hi there! It's great that you're considering switching browsers. Based on the features you're looking for, there are a few options that could meet your needs: Google Chrome: Chrome is known for its speed and performance. It has a clean user interfa…

Honestly, I want to. But every time I start ripping and organizing music, I realize how much work and effort it will be, and I just say fuck it, I'll keep using Spotify. For movies and tv shows, spread across 50 different streaming services, costin…

(Quote) Ah, was gonna say I'd feel kinda bad if I was the single person prevented a perfect streak!

Am I that one inactive client? lol...been thinking of activating the sub again as it worked well!

(Quote) Same, but the banner on the top of the site still declares the 14.99 deal. Missed out on this one I guess.

(Quote) Thanks, that's good to know it's from my virtual CPU and not the whole. And I realized I worded that poorly, it was 30-35% most of the time that I was doing stuff on the VPS! That one usually sits idle, lol, but I will manually do some rclon…

With top does it show cpu % based on my own allocation, or in general? I tried on one of my VPS and it was floating around 30-35% most of the time. I've also seen the command htop, I presume that is similar?
-
So how would I measure or estimate my usage ?

As far as speeds go, from work I tested again (still from my phone using the Ivacy Android app), I got 118/20 Mbps down/up on my LTE connection (T-Mobile). I swapped over to my Private Internet Access VPN which I've had for a couple years (usually p…

Got this one, went for the 10 device plan just cause. On my phone so far using LTE, getting around 50/30 Mbps Down/Up to a couple nearby cities (within 200 miles). The Android app is ok, I wish it would show where the Automatic connection had chose…

Obviously it'll differ from provider to provider, but in general, are these "lifetime deals" for a service that requires then to run servers viable? Like I'm sure some people just buy it and forget about it and rarely/never use it, but are…

Still have Vanced installed on my phone, even changed phones since they discontinued it and was able to re-install just fine. It does at this point show some ads in the browsing sections/list of videos, which is a bit annoying, but not that big of a…

Wow, that's a great list! Thanks @Encoders, I have seen some of that stuff around but definitely not used all of it. And I appreciate the book recommendation @iaecm ...555 pages may be a bit much for my plate right now, but I think it would serve a…

(Quote) For sure, always a good thing to test! I...haven't quite gotten the whole backup thing sorted yet, and am confused by a few points in the repository logistics, but I will be testing the restoration process afterwards.

(Quote) Appreciate the tip! I do sometimes find myself uninstalling things later that I either rarely use or never actually ended up using. I'm hoping that one of the backup solutions I'm trying ends up working as they all seem to be well-regarded. …

(Quote) That's definitely how I've been doing it. Honestly my main issue is that I just can't decide what to try and install!
-
Those both look really neat! Do either of them have any sort of "app install" type feature?
-
Tried EasyPanel out on a VPS earlier for a way to test a GUI...pretty happy with it, seems more flexible than swizzin.

Sounds like it really should matter then who I pick to be my remote backup target...was planning on going with one of the VPS with RAID-6, because it conveniently has large amounts of storage as well, so that sounds like a good choice. Given the ex…

(Quote) Been reading about Seafile and other file-syncing apps a bunch this evening. The speed of Seafile seems pretty universally praised, but there are also two common concerns I see brought up. One is that it's a Chinese company, though if self-h…

I've been looking for a better filesyncing solution to run locally and also on a VPS somewhere, maybe Seafile could be that. I've seen so many recommendations for NextCloud so I installed it recently but it seems....bloated. Like, I just want file s…

Really interesting to see everyone's perspective on this -- and how much overlap there is. It really is a "the more you know, the less you ask others" situation like you find in many concentrated groups of people who have some experience i…

Fair enough. I do try and solve most things myself, as well, though sometimes I don't know exactly what I need to figure out, when is usually when I reach out to support. Hopefully it's not been too irritating for my providers, lol. But half the fun…

If it's something that you don't know how to do, but could potentially do if you researched and spent some time figuring out, does that still fall into the 'don't bother them' category?

(Quote) Ah, damn. Still hoping it just kinda goes away on its own one day, lol.

Did anyone who had that Invalid vserverid or username message when trying to open the VPS Control Panel find a fix?

(Quote) Woooooooo! Edited just cause.
