Apparently (not seen it confirmed) it was due to their auth system breaking. YouTube worked OK if you were logged out. Anything requiring auth stopped working.

They are clowns. I was doing some testing between a shared host and VPS I was using, the shared host was using bitninja. Apparently using custom user agents is "attacking a server"- their definition of what is abuse is ridiculous.
