This forum is running on a VPS. (Sponsored by 'Inception Hosting' lol)

  • Single E3-1270v6 core
  • 512MB Ram
  • 5GB NVMe (I am sure that will need to increase soon)
  • NGINX + Apache2 Hybrid + php73 + MariaDB
  • Running This forum and a WP site (yet to go live)

I will keep this updated as time goes by.

NVMe2G for life! until death (the end is nigh)

  • That's really lean. Why not roll a pure nginx setup, though?

Vanilla needs .htaccess and its a little bitch on pure nginx.

It would be interesting to follow the correlation between RAM usage and the number of members / visits as the community grows.

Edit: tks for sharing the specs.

This is useful information actually. I have been wondering how resources scale with community growth.

Yes. I have data about WP, magento etc., but not about Vanilla. I would like to follow the evolution of processor & memory usage and, if possible, bandwidth.

Not really an opinion on my part, but I thought maybe OpenLiteSpeed would be good for this now, supporting .htaccess and all ... (?) (I haven't run plain Apache for quite some years, used nginx for some years, and recently played with OpenLiteSpeed and Lighttpd.)

Yeah maybe, although this seems to be doing well tbh on fairly limited resources, once things start to struggle I may use that opportunity to switch a few times and measure performance, my personal choice is usually lighttpd but felt a bit fruity when setting this up.

I remember the time when I tried to use lighttpd with Vanilla on your recommendation.... I blame you for my lack of hair now :anguished:

I would've made it with a docker swarm cluster running both a mysql cluster and a replicated apache service. I would then have added 5 masters to be able to have 2 down and maintain a proper cluster and then 3 workers all running the mariadb and apache services.
But that would probably be overkill ?

I always install via ISO, and the last time I tried, Ubuntu told me that the VM didn't meet the minimum system requirements :(
