I also just ran it through a load impact test, it handled a synthetic load of 231 requests p/second with an avg latency of 13ms, so that allows some room for growth with the current specs

Do you intend to allow upload to disk? It will build up over time
Yep, I have some ideas on managing that for the long term, like pushing images through imgur (transparrently) when uploaded and having a link kill life on none image extensions of 1 year.

Or, you know, moving them onto thttpd on a 486 out of Kuala Lumpur with a 3GB Maxtor on dialup to get rid of the kids.

There is another issue with imgur:
I know about at least 3 forums that have been blocked by imgur - they are considered as marketplaces, because some threads contain offers. If that happens to LES, then all images would be lost...

If you are interested in something that isn't imgur for images, I run https://drop.cm/ as a side-hobby, and wouldn't mind some usage of it

You would be surprised to see how little space uploads consume on Host Balls, even after almost 2 years.
Yep, the server logs take up more space, so far I would say its been about 100mb p/week and that's essentially uncompressed as vanilla does not do a great job of that but @Phill had some good ideas to reduce that by as much as 90% in same cases without loss of experience so I will be implementing that.

What did you use to load test it?
Recently played with loader.io vs wordpress a bit. Can't take a lot even on a beefy machine...until you enable caching that is.
Just a free test on loadimpact https://loadimpact.com/
I will try loader.io

running loader.io 50 client sim now as I update this.
edit:
no failures but it did slow down to 1308ms load time at the end.
Thanks for showing me that tool, great for testing.

Yeah initial plan was to spin up some azure servers and use the siege app. Couple of those could sink anything.
...but that would have looked like a DoS attempt so yeah no
Update pls

Please keep the uploads around. Imgur deletes inactive ones which means that old forum images are broken all over the web, not good.
Fair one, I will probably have a separate server for images then or put some cdn offloading in place, I will work something out.

imgur is in need of an alternative, but tbh the main attraction of imgur appears to be missing - anonymously drag drop an img and hotlink it.
Arguably not a particularly sustainable business model so can see why you'd not want to do that

bingo, pretty much want to keep it as a side-project with least work/time going into it, just wish at times the .cm domain was cheaper.. wayy cheaper.

hmm...alternative...allow anon upload & hotlinking but just from specific domains? e.g. this forum. Not 100% sure how to do that technically tho
